I just received some e-bay same from Zhychologic Shop. It is soft/supple and has a fair amount of hide left on the underside. I wanted to do a full wrap but this is pretty useless as is. Is there any way to "cure" it to harden it like samegawa? If not should it be fine for panels?

You would want to soak it in water for a day and then take a knife close to a skinning knife and scrape the hide down the just the skin and pearls and then stretch it out to dry unless you decide to do the wrap right away.

If he got it from ebay, it is probably already cured, scraped and sanded. You can see in this photo. Plus it's softened up for use in wallets and boots. Robo, I have a hide that isn't hard at all. It is soft and pliable like yours. You can use it for a full wrap, you're going to soak it for your rough fit to the tsuka anyway, so it will harden up after you wrap and bind it(w/ old ito) to the tsuka.
