My jian is starting to dull a little and I want to sharpen it to a much sharper edge. I don't have file or fine sandpaper, and I think I would mess up terribly if I tried. I do however have all the materials to make a strop. So my question is, can I sharpen my jian with a strop and how would I go about the actual sharpening process?

If it is sharp already just not very sharp, stropping might help. Stropping isn't really for adding to an edge, it is for removing the wire from the "wire edge" that is a product of sharpening.

Thanks Sam. What angle should I have the blade to the strop?
