I saw that, but it doesn't fit my idea of the spears in the book.

Good to see some fellow WoT fans! One of the great things about the books is that Robert Jordan didn't really leave a whole lot for the imagination to make up when it came to the weapons. The Aiel spear was a weapon with a short haft and long blade. That blade could be used for thrusting, cutting, or throwing. That being said, you're on the right track. I would shave a little off of that four foot shaft, maybe to 2.5'-3', and drop the buttcap. Take a peek at the zulu spears from Africa and you'll see a weapon very similar to what the Aiel carry. Shaka developed them for a fighting form very similar to what Robert Jordan describes.
Just my two cents. Naturally, use your own judgement because it's your weapon and you must be satisfied with it. The rest of us aren't the ones using it, so we don't have to like it. Have fun!

I plan on shortening the shaft to about 3-3.5 ft, and wrapping it all in brown leather. I wasnt going to have a buttcap but I decided to add that since it will help balance the weapon, and allow for quicker changes in movement.
