Okay,I got a new game recently and have become rather taken with the aforementioned character.(pics below) His weapon of choice is seeming more and more interesting to me and doesn't look like that far out of a concept. Two short swords that connect at the base of the handles to become a double bladed staff, that's what I see,but I don't know of any technical name for such a weapon. I guess my points are: 1.Do you know what this(type) is called? 2.Have you seen this or something similiar for sale? 3.What are your thoughts on this?(Not really neccessary, but I figured it would be good to discuss it as I really hate creating threads that only ask "omgz gaiz, wer cn i fnd dis awsme sowrd")

I know there are some weapons out there that were similar to double-bladed daggers or short swords (check for one of the other Final Fantasy threads in this section, someone posted about them) but I've never heard of anything beyond cheap display pieces that could split in the middle like that. I think it would probably be really tricky to come up with a means of connecting the two parts that was sturdy enough that it could be used in battle but still allow you to disconnect it quickly.

That would be a really neat pair of swords! I watched G.I. Joe last night and I believe Storm Shadow had a pair of katanas that fitted together at the pommel (I know that's a European sword term...please forgive me, I'm not well-versed in the eastern blades...) to create a double-bladed weapon. It was during his final fight with Snake Eyes that he joined them together.
The closest thing that I have seen is two swords that form a small staff by inserting each blade into its respective slot in the other sword (a sort of scabbard built right below each blade). I know that it isn't quite what you are looking for...but just another thought. I'll keep my eyes peeled, good luck!

I've seen that same set of two swords that you're talking about Braveheart, or one similar to it. The one I saw the swords could also connect at the pommel. However, the when the guy selling them at the state fair drew them to show me both of the blades just fell right out, it turns out they didn't have tangs at all and were just glued into the hilts. Not really something I would want to buy.

Doh! Wow...that would be scary (especially if you swung them first...). That is probably the epitome of cheap...

But not unexpected.

While video game swords are cool most are too radical to actually do this design is fairly in line with reality and you might can do this even I have made many odd weapons but im not sure how you would make the mechanism to put the two blades together, There would be a ton of stress on the opposite end you hit with but that seems to be the only problem I also have this game and I gotta say FINAL FANTASY ROCKS!!!!
Good luck
