This will be my new project. My kawashima Warrior. I have refinished the saya. I change it from natural wood, to natural wood with a red oak stain. Once I have the ito in hand, I will start the tsuka-maki. I think I'm going to do something different with this one. Here is a before shot, and an after w/ just the finished saya and different tsuba. The tsuba is the original from Maynar's remount. He was gracious enough to allow me to keep it, along with the menuki. Which i will use as well, granted I don't come across something else that catches my eye. The name for this katana when finished will be "Ikasu Mokuhon" (sharp tree) Stay tuned. Before shown w/ my shaku-hachi(a Japanese bamboo flute; translates to "one shaku eight sun"- 1.8 shaku and comically "semprini" in today's nihongo higo) After cket.com/albums/qq336/robbydoom/ikasu%20mokuhon/DSCF1094.jpg[/IMG]

So I decided to use the original ito. I simply washed it, then used my girlfriend's hair straightener to flatten it out. It worked great. Might be something you'd might want to try for yourself. I decided to do hira-maki for this tsuka. I have never done this before, so I had no idea how to do it. I pretty much did it my own way, with my own end not. It worked out great. I may use the ito that is on the way when it gets here, but who knows. So here it is, finished, for now. Before and after

Great work again! I love that wood stain. I've had a similar saya planned for some time now, but in a warm redbrown stain, I'm just waiting for the kojiri to be made.
If I could be so bold to suggest any additions, it would be to laquer the kurikata black gloss. A winding black line down the saya would be striking. Or perhaps the bottom part in black gloss divided by a diagonal?

I have a daisho on the way, so perhaps I will take your suggestions and see if they will work on them.
