Why not set up a reverse of the "Sword Review" sub-forum?
For instance, I'm just beginning to speculate on the Oakeshott stuff concerning my blades. I also speculate on the stuff I might want to acquire in the future.
My favorite western is a Windlass Soldier of God. I took a few inches off the tip and shaved the profile about 0.050", and now its balance is good for me.
But here's the kicker...I don't know how Oakeshott would categorize this sword. I think it's a XII, but I honestly don't understand his system yet.
In my ignorance, I think I'm getting pretty good at spotting XIV's, but ....
So my suggestion is to set up a sub-forum that takes western blades currently on the market and attaches information to them. One doesn't have to own it, but be knowledgeble enough to accurately describe it from pictures. You know, Manufacturer, Sword Name, Catalog Number, Oakeshot Blade type XXXX, Cross type YYY, Pommel type ZZZ, used mostly from the AAth Century though the BBth Century.
This would create a library of information without having to spend the money.
Would this be redundant with the Sword Review sub-forum? I don't think so. The SR sub would still showcase actual stats and subjective stuff like cutting while the proposed sub-forum would give broader definition to what's available.

Good idea! A similarly oriented thread was started in the Euro sword sub-forum...maybe it's time to feed it with infos and bring it back up!

Ah, you mean the Shrewsbury and the Templar Rene swords marketed by Windlass/MRL; if I had to venture a guess I'd say that sword didn't fit the timeline of the Crusades...long thin blade with a diamond cross section. I would've guessed Type XVIIIe, which would make the sword about 200 years younger than the time frame of the movie. I'm ball parking it, of course.
That was the worst movie I've seen about the Crusades- it went absolutely nowhere.
