Viking Halberd idea?

Here's a suggestion for the DIYers. Something I'll probably get around to eventually, but not in the near future. It'd be interesting if someone tries it first and reports on the results.
In the following MyArmoury thread:

You see Hank Reinhardt discussing his speculations on the infamous Viking "halberd" being more a galive-like mounting of a sword blade as a polearm.
Interestingly enough I tried that very thing many years ago. Got a cheapie $50 "Viking sword" on eBay only to (no surprise) be disappointed. Real carbon steel and not ridiculously heavy, but still beefy w/ no distal taperand a wimpy tang that wasn't rat tail but might as well have been.
I mounted it with long slabs reaching halfway up the blade, just about six inches below the presumed CoP, and then well wrapped. It turned a no-way-in-hell SLO into a rather usable long-tanged polearm that cut pretty well, all things considered, and was "hilted" very sturdy.
Still, it begs the question: how much MUCH better this would work with a GOOD sword blade? I suspect the results would be very nice--and what better bare blades for a project like that than a Hanwei Tinker EMSH or Viking? (I told you their appearance on the market excied me to no end. Problem is I have too many ideas for them--as well as longsword or bastard bare blades--and nowhere near the time or ability to justify the expense to try them all, *sigh*)
Just a thought to float out there though. Maybe someone will get to it before I do--I really hope so.
