Anybody notice this sword from Windlass,I was looking through the catalog and it seems to be on sale at $139.00 from $230.00.Anybody have any knowledge about how this one feels. www.museumreplicas.com/p-272-polish-sword.aspxI'm only about 30 min away from Museum replicas so i'd also get another 10% off buying there.I like the 2 1/8 width plus isnt 3lbs 2ozs pretty heavy for a windlass sword.

I've noticed that one before... but I have moved away from Windlass weapons for the most part unless they really impress me or go on crazy sale. Nothing wrong with them... I'm just getting more interested in customs and higher end swords. If you pick it up, a review would be in order... ;D

Well I've got a caviar/custom taste to but lately all I can afford is peanut butter priced pieces. Seriously I have owned a few windlass's swords a long time ago and they were decent pieces.I try to stop over at MR every couple of months to check out whats new or in the scratch and dent bin.Lately it seems their offerings have been getting whimpier and seems the longer the blade the more extra flexable/limp it is.I just liked the short fuller, the crossguard style and i think the oversized rounded pommel looks good on this sword and liked it even before it went on sale.Maybe it's time for a MR roadtrip soon.

Do it; I can't recall anyone else expressing any interest in it; I kow I certainly didn't. I'd like to see a review if you do get it, though.

I've been interested in it for a while. I'm just waiting for it to be the DotD. I'm hoping I can get a hand and a half on it.

Wow thanks for telling me about the review dont know how I missed it.I knew I liked the guard for some reason it does have a Polish saber look to it. It seems heavy enough that it may not be as whimpy as the usual.I may have a chance to stop by MR this weekend and hold onto one, depending on Dragon con.

You're welcome. Found where I saw a sword like it: in Arms & Armor: a pictorial archive from nineteenth-century sources by Carol Belanger Grafton, New York, Dover Publications, 1995, p.21. (Not really a book on arms and armour I would highly recommend...it's only o.k., I guess...) Edited to add: This one, in the book, looks like it has a longer, more tapered, grip and a curious chappe (it looks like it's under the guard?). If you get to handle the sword, or get it altogether, tell us what are your impressions! I think it is an interesting hilt configuration...

Just took another look at the review: Luka had posted the same image from the same book...I would rally to his comment on the historical accuracy of the infos in the book...

That depends on what you're looking for. DSA swords are generally more attractive and probably a lot tougher, but from what I've read it sounds like they tend to be a little heavy, whereas there are a lot of Windlass swords that handle very nicely. The Windlass swords also tend to be a whole lot cheaper, and this one is on closeout for only $139, so that's a pretty sweet deal.

the weight isnt an issue I like weight but really im just interested in the polish cause of the low price point either way im not getting either anytime soon (which could be unfortunate as the polish is discontinued)

You know, the pics from that link Reflingar posted show the sword in a better light, to me anyways. Its more attractive than I initially gave it credit for, seeing as MRL only posted the hilt and part of the blade instead of the whole pkg.
Ah, Windlass and their ubiquitous scabbards...no matter, no one buys a Windlass for the scabbard. I don't know what's up with the QC dept tho...I've yet to come across a Windlass with a decent scabbard; I have two of theirs that came with wood core scabbards (Crecy and Qama) but neither fit well. The throat on the Crecy won't even allow the sword to sit completely inside.
All in all, not a bad looking sword. Interesting guard....

My Windlass type XIV came with a very snug fitting scabbard, even if it was only leather. The main thing I like about Windlass scabbards is that they come with decent chapes to steal for your own projects, but sometimes it can be a pain getting them off.

It could be as nice as on the drawing but it would need a few modifications here and there (grip especially, refinished guard, etc.)...but a nice project sword of a rarer seen type on the production market...

Polish Sword is MRL's Deal of the Day for $115. Pretty nice price if anyone is interested in it.
