pilgrim...I don't know about that; in order for that to happen they'd need to be around me, and I'm literally surrounded by swords...who is to say I won't have a flashback, see my little one at the cute little age of say, 5 or 6 and just go apeshit wondering what this half-grown man sees in my precious little munchkin?
I'll put the fear of God in'm; make'm think I eat iron and semprini out steel, that sorta thing. That's what I'll do.
Seriously tho, you know at that age 'relationships' tend to be transient at best...I don't have the time or inclination to train squire after squire! lol

What's the song, Have her home by nine and I'll still be here cleaning this gun.....Actually you might find one who decides that the girls are ok but sticks around because the swords are too cool. lol
Wiskyjac, NICE SHIRT! A wide heavy belt will help take some of the weight off your shoulders and free up your arms some. Sounds like a perfect fit. Wear it in good health.

Taran, thank you , that was the song I had in mind. Ebon, think it's fitting?
And now for something completely different: Wiskyjac, are you wearing your new shirt around the house "to get used to the weight"? I'll bet you've taken a real close look at the way it's put together, so what do you think? What do the neighbors think? lol Yes there is an inside and an outside, front or back depends on how the panels were put together, and by the time you've rolled around on the ground and fought thru the mud a few times it won't be shiny anymore.
Yis, K
P.S, sorry for the hijack, it's all in fun, K

Okay, so I have further questions about ring-mesh for you forumites. I'm on a protection jag (inevitable laughs here) so I'm looking a buckler and some chainmaile. That said, I'm not a muscular guy, so the idea of lighter weight chain is very appealing to me. That said, I have questions about the durability and functionality of the Ringmesh chain. Durability is not so much a problem, but I'm wondering more about the actual protection factor. Any thoughts?

Chain does not protect against impact -- it only converts a sharp edge into an impact.

I know, hence the need for a good gambeson, but that's later in the year. I was specifically wondering for anybody who's actually had or used ring-mesh, is it good protection from slashing or piercing. And also, can it handle impact without splitting. Any thoughts?

Not to derail your question... How do you fit the mail without the gambeson? I know, hence the need for a good gambeson, but that's later in the year. I know my chest size? I also checked out some of the Gambesons that are online and some of them have a handy little thing that says "this adds X to your chest size". I mean, granted, I will probably buy the gambeson and mail at the same time so I can return the mail if it doesn't fit well with the gambeson. Granted, this is my first mail purchase, so advice will be appreciated, but that's further down the road.

Ebon, I will court your daughters if it means getting to handle your awesome swords and armor. You know Jonathan, you've such an open, honest looking face I'd let you do so...but then, I think I know a bit about you that I wouldn't of some clown they brought in. So yea...that'd work. But like Sean said...learn how to handle your own, then you can learn others. How're yours workin out for you? Bryn, ideally you'd get the gambeson first...that is, if you intend on wearing one under chainmail. Don't get me wrong, chainmail's pretty flexible and what you buy 'off the rack' has to fit a variety of sizes so you're probably good to go, but if you plan on doing any fighting, plan on replacing links or the entire shirt at some point.

Thanks for the advice Ebon. Shoot, your probably the one I should be talking to most about my kit. I'm going for early 1200's Teutonic Knight. At least, that's the plan.

They skills in question are in definate need of improvement. Unfortunately the weather has been bad for the past week, so I have only had two chances to cut, and the first time I only go to cut one bottle. Hopefully I will be able to cut some today if it doesn't rain. P.S. I'm sure that your daughters are beautiful, kind maidens, and I would probably be willing to court them free of charge, lol.

Not to derail your question... How do you fit the mail without the gambeson? Add two inches around the chest. One inch around the arm. This is usually pretty generous.

Jonathan, the world wasn't made in a day- this is going to take time. Practice, practice, practice- but don't forget to have fun while you're doing it. Pretty soon, you'll be slicing onion rings and pickle chips with the best of'm, I'm sure.
I'm a little envious...I wish I had had the time and wherewithal to get into swords at your age...I certainly had the passion for it. All things happen for a reason, so they say.
Have you or are you interested in pursuing WMA?

I am somewhat interested, yet it is not an option for me right now in my life.
