I've been working on an ongoing art project for some time now. Basically it involves drawing lots of different kinds of swords in Adobe Illustrator, based on photos so that the proportions are accurate and they're all to scale with each other. The original idea was to build up a library of sword parts so that I could easily mock up new sword designs. But recently I realized that I could also turn them into clip art sets for sword enthusiasts. Here are sample images of the first two sets, viking swords and long swords. I have 10 different viking swords and 11 different long swords. Each sword is provided in 4 styles, outlined, cartoon, rendered and silhouette. They're not for sale yet. I'm working on an arming sword set right now, and there will be several more sets after that before the pack is complete and ready to sell.

I wouldn't mind it if they all looked realistic...not sure I'm liking the line drawing aspect. Still...I think its cool that you can do this sort of thing.

Each sword has 4 different styles to choose from, including the more realistic style. I've stacked them on top of each other in the samples, but in the sets, each sword in each style is a separate file.
For example, there's 10 different swords in the viking sword pack, but a total of 40 images.

As for being realistic i think John has gone as far as he could with illustrator, believe me You could use them to make a diagram of the Oakshotte typology ! Some of us would like to see this on SBG. Not sure if you could cover all the types but you seem to have quite a wide selection.

I actually COULD go more realistic with Illustrator, but the time involved in doing all those swords (I estimate there will be almost 100 by the time I'm done) would just be too prohibitive.
It probably wouldn't be hard to do all the Oakeshott types. That's a project for after I'm done with the clip art pack though. Don't want to bite off more than I can chew.

From the sheer number i guess that you'll have other companies designs than Windlass, what are the other ones you plan on doing ?

I'm getting most of the photos to base them on from MRL, so there's a lot of Windlass pieces there, but I get reference photos from anywhere I can, as long as the dimensions are listed, so I can draw them to scale.
Here's a list of the sets I'm planing on including: viking swords arming swords broad swords long swords great swords rapiers & side swords sabers & cutlasses asian swords ancient swords fantasy swords (maybe)
Each set will have about 5-15 swords.

I think your sword images are awesome!
I've got an accurate Chinese sword design if you are interested in it for one of your Asian swords. It's a rough sketch but I have measurements and photos of the actual guard and pommel.
The sword is something I plan to commission some day and not only would I love to see a good rendering of it but it could also be a nice addition to your collection.
