my good friend, sword guilde member and local bladesmith Will Goodwin (no relation we know of...it's a long story) just finished his last work. A customer brought him a un-mounted Toledo blade that was purchased on Ebay a few years back. He wanted a basket-hilt,pommel made for it with rayskin grip, copper wire wrap & Turks Head knots. This was Will's first attempt at doing the Turks Heads ( I think he did rather well with them. He also had to cut the blade down a bit form it's original state. So...here are some pics of it. Let me know what you think of his work....he does mostly knives , daggers but his sword work is growing over the years. thanks for looking and he's always up for custom work....PM me if you'd like to contact him. cheers, Bill

That is one Big Beefy Bodacious Basket. ;D
How does the sword balance or "feel" in your hand?
I do like the look though!

Magnificent ! Seems very solid !! I do like a Broadsword without to many frolics (velvet cup lining) This could have come straight off Culloden Moor ! I can imagine the " the real thing" would have resembled a bit like this ... so pure ... so ... how shall I put it ... uncomplicated ... I do like it a lot !!

That is really beautiful. Yes, I am a "basket head". I like my fingers attached.

thanks all, I'll forward all the feedback to him. Well truthfully, it is a lunker and sharp as home-made sin. Will really knows how to put an edge on things (his knives, daggers, sgian dubh's are solid, tough, sharp). He has a very very small shop, a small propane forge, so he is somewhat limited, but it's mostly done hand (lots of hand filing, shaping, etc) Will said he hate's the blade, but it's what the customer wanted. More of Will's work...... this was made (guard, grip, pommel) for a Hanwei / Tinker l-s blunt another Scottish basket - he also made the blade for this one.. a "thistle" theme hilt ....his very first basket -hilt knives, dagger, etc........

That thistle-themed basket is beautiful! I can imagine that with a backsword blade.... oh, it's tempting....

Does this fella do much in the way of Highland Games? I'd swear I've seen his work before.

I love the grip on the first one... beautiful... I would love that grip with something like the Thistle basket, I think they would go VERY well together. Great work.

They have very similar work then. I like the way Wills' baskets look, I wish I had a good baskethilt claymore.
