Sounds like a great idea, assuming the blades are of good quality. Giving buyers more options, especially at good prices, can't be bad in tough economic times. Good luck.

Ok all. Thanks for the great feedback. I could go the option of sharpening it, for say $10 more, but the thing is, you want to truly sharpen it after it's final sanding and polishing of the blade is complete.
I'll go ahead and put an option to call for custom u-finish orders. Depending on the blade, I should be able to do it. Knowing you guys, I'm sure I'll get a lot of neat styles to do for you. Hopefully, there's something I have already for you.
I'll will provide a picture of what a U Finish blade would look like, so the customer has a clear understanding of the amount of work they'll need to finish.
I'm not exactly sure when it will be added to the web site. Probably within the week. I'll send a picture of an example u-finish tomorrow, the 1st. That way if any of you want to order before then, I can start taking orders.
Thanks, my brothers of the sword. Chris

Awesome. This sounds like the perfect way to break in my new 2x72 Grizzly grinder.
I'll be calling about a Kopis.
thanks, Chris

Hey guys, Below are pictures of an example U-Finish Sword. As you can see, it still needs work: heavy sanding, a little bit of grinding if any, polishing to what finish you would like, and final sharpening (it’s sharpened some). Obviously attaching the handle as well. I’ll be putting together some general directions for finishing your blade and attaching handles, which will come with the sword. I hope to add the “U Finish” feature to the web site by this weekend. Any that would like to order for now will need to do it through my paypal e-mail account (scorpionbows@mchsi.com). If you have a custom design you’d like, e-mail me a picture of it (same address) and I can quote you a u-finish price. Again, thanks for all the feedback. Look forward to putting many swords in your hands! Chris

Hey Guys, I was expecting to hear some comments after I posted the pictures, but I'm going to assume since I didn't hear anything, that's not what you all were expecting. Please comment, and let me know what you would expect for that type of discount, and I can determine if I can afford to move forward with it or not.
fyi, these are what my swords look like before I start the heavy sanding and polishing. I know it looks a little ruff, but you'd be amazed once you start smoothing it out and shining it up , what it ends up looking like.

I forgot. ;D Sorry. I think this is a fantastic deal, personally, as I am a person who loves customizing swords.

That looks fine to me, but I'm no expert. It is rough but that's the deal, right? A lot of the labor in a sword is the finishing.
The blade I was thinking about first is the Conan warlord-- I would like to see an unmounted blade, though.

I'm definitely going to buy a U finish blade. I just need to pick one out.

It looks great, man! I just kind of got distracted and temporarily forgot about this thread. But no worries- a bare blade in that condition is well worth the price you're asking. GREAT deal... I may have to talk to you about a custom U-Finish sword sometime... I love your work, but none of your current offerings are to my taste as far as shape goes. They are obviously well made, and look beautiful, but not quite my style. I'd LOVE a pair of legolas's elven daggers with different proportions and a bit of tweaking... Good idea on this, and an even better job carrying it out! I look forward to seeing what comes from your company in the future... -Slayer

Hey Chris, are you planning on doing any longer bladed swords? I notice that you generally do shorter stuff right now, and I was wondering if that's just preference or some particular reason.

I'm not much of a 'do it yourself' kinda guy when it comes to swords... I leave that to people who know what they are doing... which description does NOT include me. However, a lot of people here do like to work on their own swords somewhat... and there seems to be a lot of people excited for this idea. I think its awesome that you are interacting with the buying public in this way... getting feedback, talking about options and ideas... and if the reactions in this thread are any indication... it seems to be well received. Thus, I am honored (and surprised, frankly) to gift you with your first Karma! +1 sir

Me too, +1 I think it's an awesome deal and the blade's fine like that, really. Like Yrx said, would a longer blade be Ok as a custom? Like a longsword/hand and a half?

archerout- you can still color me interested!
To me I am just amazed that there is a beautiful shiny blade hidden in that rough piece of steel. I would just be afraid that I would screw something up in finishing it...... But that does not mean I'm not looking forward to trying! I like the Sword of Subotai, though I probably end up getting the "WarLord" Sword.
