It appears to be a Chinese cavalry sword, based on the Japanese Type 32 cavalry sword introduced in 1899. I don't know much more than that, but maybe that will get you started in your research. My first instinct was that it might be a fake, but apparently the Chinese military did adopt a variation of the Japanese original.

:)Hey Guys; Thanks for your response, I'll keep looking for answers, someone on this forum may yet know of it . That Japanese type 32 is a ringer for mine. Chinese copy maybe, Johnathan, seems like you know your Sabers.

Yes, a Chinese cavalry trooper sword in the style of the Japanese cavalry trooper sabres. faganarms.com/chinesecavalrytrooperssword.aspxhome.earthlink.net/~steinrl/repro.htmIf you back track a little on the Rich Stein pages linked second, you'll see the Japanese cavalry types described and pictured. Lynn Thompson, of Cold Steel, had brought in a large batch of the Chinese version back in the late 1980s and I know there were other sources that did likewise. They are also likely reproduced, so what little I can garner from your presentation and single picture cannot (in my mind) deny it might be old or a reproduction. Cheers Hotspur; The timeline would be right for the batches that were brought in during the late 1980s.
