oh ok so they're not just a solid carbon fiber... you should do a full wrap on the tsuka instead of panels!

Interesting! Some day I'll do a mount with modern materials.
One problem with carbon fiber is that it's very smooth and won't hold the ito like samegawa does. To secure the ito you can use a strong double sided tape on the ha and mune side before the ito is tied on.

That looks very interesting. Please keep us posted as to your progress. thanks will do

What's the use of those materials do to the heft and balance of the sword?

Great idea! Are you going to do the saya to? yes i am now. Hiroshi suggested it at a point i thought the saya was to lose but after finishing mounting the tsuka to the blade i found the habaki fit tighter so thats on the list now i just need to find where to find some of that bamboo wrap for what i have in mind for it. What's the use of those materials do to the heft and balance of the sword? well the balance of the sword is very nice with a unwrapped handle on it. the carbon fiber I'm just using for looks right now even though the kashira and fuchi are probably alot stronger now then before the wrap and weigh very little. my next project with carbon fiber is a molded handle with finger grooves with a ito wrap.

Interesting. I'm curious how the panels compare with same, on how the grip feels and uses. That's the only part I question using that material for. I would love to see the final product, with all the fittings done in that, including the saya. If you're looking for the ratan to wrap around the saya, then places like www.japanese-swords.com and www.shadowofleaves.com sell those materials.
