Why are the threads locked? Are they locked automatically, or does the mod lock them. Some have comments, mine does. Why so, I ask, why so...

There was a bit of discussion about this when the collection area was started, but I guess it's gotten lost or just not clear.
The collection area rules are that only the owner can post in the thread. It isn't a discussion thread per se. It is designed as a "gallery" for showing your collection. The members at the time decided that we should restrict and police it so that people's collections don't get lost in multiple pages of commentary like "cool blades, man."
The thread's owner can add posts and modify them to their heart's content. So it can be an ever-changing up-to-date look at your collection.
The limitation is that anyone with "moderator" privileges can't be locked out. So occasionally a moderator forgets and posts in a member's collection. I try to keep up with those and delete them after a little while... after the comment becomes irrelevant.

Plus I guess it helps weed out the ol' "your displaying your swords wrong" fiasco's, that happen a lot.
