I want to start a thread on who your favorite actor of a Samurai Ninja Flick. Here's my top three: 3. Hiroyuki Sanada - Legend of the Eight Samurai, Ninja Wars I grew up watching Legend of the Eight Samurai, as it was made when I was a kid in Japan in the 80s. The special effect seems a bit on the cheesy side now that I'm *ahem* older, but it used to scare the heebie jeebies out of me as a kid under 5 years old... I found out that he was one of the main characters in "The Last Samurai" after I IMDB'ed his name... Thought that character looked familiar!!! It was Shinbei the bandit!!! 2. Shinichi "Sonny" Chiba - Ninja Wars, GI Samurai This guy is just bad-ass. He not only reminds me of the #1 actor in my book, but he has his own flavor of "tough guy" character in his acting. I think if GI Samurai didn't have Sonny Chiba, that movie would've been unwatchable... 1. Toshiro Mifune - Too Many to Name This actor is my number one, all-time favorite. He's in more then half of my Samurai/Kurosawa movie collection. He has played so many roles, from a bandit, to a Samurai, to a scoundrel. His acting skills never ceases to amaze me. What's more, he has quite an interesting biography. I just found out that he's one of the most famous Japanese actors of all time, and he's not even native Japanese! He's actually Chinese... Wikipedia his name if you guys are interested in reading about him, led quite an interesting life...

Not so clued up with the actors names etc..,but as soon you mentioned 'revenge of the ninja and enter the ninja' I must agree I was rather young when I saw the movies and must say they are they main reason why till today i love the martial arts

Without a doubt, Toshiro Mifune. I have a nice collection of his movies, including Red Sun, Seven Samurai and others. Still looking for an affordable copy of Shogun.

My favorite samurai actor for the moment is Hiroyuki Sanada; you'll remember him as Ujio in Last Samurai. In the few scenes they had depicting him going about his other, less violent duties, he seemed to be so immersed as to not even know the camera was there.
Also a Donnie Yen fan...anyone seen Iron Monkey or Seven Swords?
Old school, I'd have to go with Sonny Chiba for bad ass, Toshiro Mifune for Samurai. Wasn't a real ninja fan, even back when Sho Kosugi exploded onto the scene.

When i was growing up you had a series called The Master, with Lee van cleef as the Master Ninja with a American student. His old student was trying to kill him because he left.
For me that was so freaking awesome and so much better then Michael Dudikof ;D

Hi, I joined the forum just so I could reply to this one!
Wakayama Tomisaburo is the man. For me, he was the embodiment of the Ronin. Each cut he made looked like the real thing.
Mifune is great in his own right, charismatic and athletic. Hiroyuki Sanada in "The Twilight Samurai" made a great portrayal of a kinder, gentler samurai.
Ogami Itto and his baby cart will always be my favorite samurai series. "Daigoro... we are standing at the crossroads to hell!"

When i was growing up hands down Sho Kosugi. For Revenge of the Ninja and Ninja III: The Domination. And for the past few years its been Toshiro Mifune. Samurai Trilogy and Samurai Rebellion really stood out for me. Especially the final fight the dual after.

Toshiro Mifune is to chanbara as John Wayne is to the Western; you can't really even discuss the genre if you don't mention their huge and deep body of work.

I feel as though a nod needs to be given to Ken Watanbe's performance in The Last Samurai. Not technically the greatest of movies, but his performance was quite good...

Ken Watanabe was also excellent in "The Yakuza" with Bad Bob Mitchum.

Gotta go with Toshiro Mifune as well, love his films and acting. I'll admit I like Pat Morita in his films, especially when he plays an old ninja. Ken Watanabe, he was great in Last Samurai, and I've seen him something else too, I liked. I can't find the guys name, but I also like the guy who helps train Cruise's character with the sword. He is always great in his rolls.
