So theres a guy in my town whose name I continually fail to ask so i simply refer to him as the sword man he makes amour and swords for medieval re-enactment fighting and the like. Im considering to have him make me a custom shield to go with my bristol signature sword seen below basically I want the shield to go along with the bristol as a functional and decorative set all I know thus far is that Im lenient towards a 13 style heater sheild and that I want the lion from the bristols scabbard and quite likely the color scheme any Ideas and suggestions are welcome and remember I know VERY little about shield construction or usage so please expand on points

There are several excellent shield threads a little deeper in this same section of the forums - about styles/shapes and their uses, as well as construction. Some great tips. The lion you have there is a "lion passant" - most well known from the English Royal Standard and coat of arms, but also a part of a number of other countrys' coats of arms. (Denmark and Estonia, for example) Here is a link that might help pick what you want for your design: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion_(heraldry)Have fun.
