Hey guys, I was reading thread at SFI and SBG and so far I could come up with MRL/Windlass Scimitar, Cold Steel Shamshir and Military Heritage French Marmeluke as pretty decent near eastern sword for the money. Does anyone knows where I could get a well made scimitar for a price point around $300. Well made is a pretty loose term I was hoping for a scimitar that handles close to an authentic/historical scimitar and built for slashing and/or light cutting? Any inputs is greatly appreciated. I've heard that Odinblades makes some really decent scimitar...wondering aloud if it cost below $400.

As far as low cost production swords, I think the examples you mentioned may be your best option. Another company offering similar swords is www.ancientarms.biz. Odinblades are custom-made swords and will cost you well over $400. Good luck!

Thanks for the link! Those Indian tulwars sure look more ornate than windlass/cold steel scimitars but I am not sure whether they are suitable for backyard cutting (well I can ask them now). Thanks again

The Odinblades one would most likely be the best one you'll find that isn't authentic; but it will cost you a pretty penny. John Lundemo's an artist among craftsmen...check out his site: www.odinblades.comHe does some really incredible work with steel.

Yeah I am afraid those where the only options . Windlass/MRL scimitar is based on the original Reinhardt collection: www.hankreinhardt.com/Sale/Swords/Swords%20039.htmNote the difference between windlass and the antique: the tang in the antique extend all the way to the end of the handle. I was hoping for one with similar construction but those shamshir/scimitar would cost me at least $500. Yeah I guess I am picky ;D Well $200 Windlass is quite a bargain anyway. On another note, Windlass did discontinue lots of great reproduction . I really like this yatagan... a little longer would be perfect. www.hankreinhardt.com/Sale/Swords/Swords%20155.htmEbon Paladin: Yeah sometime in the near future I might be able to afford Ludemo's great work. His work makes me drool. lol

Me too! He rocks...and I'm hoping to acquire one from him in the not-too distant future.
By the by, thanks for posting the Hank Reinhardt collection- I'd never seen it before.
