Can anyone point me to hopefully simple instructions on bluing a tsuba that they have tried themselves?
Thanks

Here's a thread about heat blueing. Check it out.

Here you are. Rock bottom prices, $17 shipped, from a trusted e-tailer. Prepare to do the project multiple times in order to get a nice deep blue. Also if you don't get every last bit of oil, paint, everything off that tsuba prepare to have the blue not take on those spots. The metal has to be BARE in order for the blue to take. By that I mean if you touch the metal in a spot, the blue will not take in that spot. The kit comes with instructions so just follow them to the letter and you will be fine. It can be done though. You just have to be very, very careful and pay attention to details. Really these kits are good for restoring the blue on an old beater gun and not bluing a bit of unfinished metal. The only alternative is to hot blue, which is not a back yard project. I told one guy wanting to do a blade to just have a gun smith hot blue it, but for just a tsuba I would definitely recommend trying out the cold blue kit first. Much eaiser. Like I said, if you do everything to the letter and then you should be fine. Hope this helps. www.grafs.com/product/225217
