Hi chinese swords guys I've started wing chun, and I know that the final stage is using butterfly swords. Besides hanwei's, is there any other place to get practical, sharp butterfly swords?

Ummm.... ask your teacher? Hanwei has two version of butterfly swords. Cold steel's one are slightly heavier. I've also come across this: enlightenmentswords.com/product/special_butterfly.htmlAccording to description, the weight is almost 2lb per sword...which seems pretty heavy. Might want to ask them.

They look pretty heavy and all that. Usually I don't mind it (my favorite sword is their o-katana), but I think it will hurt the performance of wing chun.

Garrett tried to get a pair made but they didn't turn out as well as he would have liked. The handle feels a bit odd while holding them. Maybe he could make a better pair though.

Too bad, maybe the next pair will have better handles.

all of our butterfly swords from class are homemade and unsharpened. they are pretty easy to make. though ours are not the kind in wing chun. ours only have half the handle on one side so they fit together perfectly to look like one. the also have a square guard instead of round.
