Wow, that thing is massive! Do you have the specification of this katana, like the length of the blade and tsuka, weight, etc? I hope you could take more pictures. I especially want to see the tsuka. Thanks!

Ric Furrer says that more often then not, they are not heat treated. I think this one maybe though. We will see on the next visit. I will pay attention to the blade more. I was so pumped in the moment that I ws taking pictures and freaking out that I didnt check for such things. I looked for a hamon and I didnt see one.

"Not heat treated?" But they have hamon. Well, the photos I've seen. That suggests they were run through the entire process to me. (considering the quench was the last step in Japan, as far as I've read; no real "tempering" as we know it...)
This particular piece could be different, granted.
