Short answer:none because none of Hanwei jian are suitable for cutting. One option is to wait for Hanwei to come out with some cutting jian designed by Scott Rondell (from the rumors, it may be pretty soon...hopefully the rumors are true ) Or you can get a custom made jian from Garrett at Jin-Shi trading at www.jin-shi.com : jin-shi.com/spec_orders.htm Garrett may have a few production jian right now. jin-shi.com/production.htmPM him if you are interested. Also don't forget to ask for 5 percent discount from him as SBG forum member .

For the real deal in the price range of $129 to $339 you can go to Jin-Shi.com and order a Jian, get a Cold Steel Gim or wait for the new Hanwei cutting jian to come out and hope it is in your price range.
None of the ones you listed are battle ready.

Best bet like these guys stated, go for the jin-shi line. $199 for the closeout line or $250+ for the specials. I saw one 2 weeks ago, it was the Silver jian. So sweet. jin-shi.com/spec_orders.htm

Other options available: Huanuo swords from seven stars trading: www.sevenstarstrading.com/html/huanuo/A jian will cost $500 and up, they were the primary source for functional jians before Garrett at jin-shi arrive to fill in sub $300 Chinese sword market. Zheng-wu forge is where you could get the best custom Chinese market jian but the prices are a lot higher too. This is the place I drool on Chinese swords: zheng-wu.com/Another forge producing functional jian would be qing-zhong forge. If I am not mistaken, the owner Kenneth was once an apprentice of Chris Zhou of Zheng-wu forge. From what I read from their website, monosteel jian cost starts from $335. www.qing-zhong.com/If you are located in Australia and New Zealand, try enlightenment swords at www.enlightenmentswords.com. They also do international shipping to the US. Price range (I am guessing here) around $300 and above. You can also get functional swords from east wind knife and sword company at: www.ew-knifeandsword.com. I do not have much experience with them. Zhisword www.zhisword.com/ also make functional Chinese jian. As usual I do not have much experience with them. Some of their swords are nonfunctional and some are functional. PM Mr. Zhang about it. JWhotsteelforge produce some Chinese swords. I have no experience on them. You can try SFI for more info. From what I heard from SFI, it is a hit or miss: stores.shop.ebay.com/JWHOTSTEELFORGE_Category-1-CHINESE-SWORDS_W0QQ_fsubZ2QQ_sidZ9926763QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322 Sinosword "probably" (I am not sure here ) make some functional jian. Again perhaps someone here or from SFI could help. www.sinosword.com/Product/?partsort=100002 Again I have no experience on their product I am sure I am missing a few other Chinese sword manufacturers. Some of them here could help out (I am still a Noob sword enthusiast ) Paul did a review on cold steel battle gim (Gim is double edge sword in Cantonese), they are a tad heavy but at a price of $250 probably the cheapest functional jian out there (if Garrett's production jian are sold out of course. I would personally recommend Garrett's production jian at jin-shi.com). I almost forgot, kris cutlery have some Chinese jian in the market at $275, They also have the gim II but the POB seems rather awkward to me. Again I have no experience on KC jian... Feel free to correct me since I am still a noob Edit: Zheng-wu, Qing-Zhong and Huanuo are established sword manufacturers...can't go wrong with them except their price are above $300. Jin-Shi is a new company but from I heard about his product and customer service so far, I trust my money on Garrett's product. I do not know much about other companies. Be nice if someone could add their thoughts to this thread .

The KC Jian III is just awesome. You can specify the length of blade. However the fittings - though high quality, are plain as usual KC style. For the money, the Flower/Dragon/Silver motif from jin-shi are better in my opinion because those blades from garret are great too. zheng-wu.com/ you drool i drool we all drool for zheng wu.

My only experience is with Jin-Shi, and mine is one heck of a cutter and it feels like it is an extension of my arm. Love my Jin-Shi.

Jin Shi, Jin Shi, Jin Shi!!!!!! Don't have one yet, but from what reviews I've read, cutting vids I've seen, and after talking to Garrett himself about some custom work I want to have done - I will have to say go with Garrett. And it is too bad we don't see him around here anymore. He was the resident expert.

Jin-Shi or the Cold Steel Gim. I have the latter and want the former. CS Gim is a great cutter, but a little heavier than a Jian should really be. Looks god, too...

I have the Cold Steel Gim. I don't know anything about Chinese martial arts or swords but I really like the Gim.

I just noticed Valiant Armory makes a dao blade that's supposed to be "cutting quality" over a KoA, but I don't know anything about that one. As for jian I guess we'll have to wait for that Scott Rodell Hanwei model to come out, if Garrett's going to be closing up shop.

Garrett is far from closing up. He is just going to be selling the made to order swords (customs and special order, as well as large amounts for production swords).

Once Jin Shi become solely custom, will their swords be very expensive? I was really hoping they would become the dedicated affordable Chinese Sword provider in North America... On the other hand, what would be cool is if they get a bunch of blades, and customize the fittings and such when a purchase is made, so that they'll still be attainable, but with a few options to choose.

Jin Shi is already taking custom order and most of them are below $300 (excluding shipping), which in my opinion the best bang for the buck for a Chinese sword given the quality of Jin Shi blade so far. In fact their custom jian are slightly cheaper than the custom jian I ordered 3 months ago, which is a good sign that (to my knowledge) Jin Shi is striving to keep prices reasonable. Sound like a good idea to me. IMO Jin Shi needs to build up a solid reputation for quality blades at affordable price and increase demand for their product. To zerodao: I see you are interested in getting a functional Kwan Dao and Pudao. One option you could try is to contact Garrett and Jin-Shi and see if he could make a custom Dao for you. I think Huanuo has kwan dao but it costs a fortune IMO
