Here is a little video I did today:
During a conversation a little while back, someone felt that my Albion Mercenary was designed as a 'thrusting only' sword. I explained though the Type XVs were primarily thrusting weapons, they did not sacrifice their cutting ability. I have found that Type XVs do require a little practice to get used to their unforgiving edge alignment, but other than that, they cut very well once you are used to them.
So, to enforce the point, I created this little video showing me using my Mercenary; not only to cut - but to do so by cutting on the draw from the scabbard.
Enjoy!

Nicely done, Odingaard. It is a misconception that type XV's can't cut. My Poitiers cuts very well also, including tip cuts. Thanks for helping dispel the myth.

Nice job, Jonathan. I see you did the music too. Quite the Rennaissance man there, buddy. I've never gotten the opportunity to handle any of Albion's XVs, but I always thought they looked like they should cut well enough. You prove the old adage, "It's the singer, not the song."

Excellent cutting. Great job.
My only confusion is in the title. My understanding of a 'Draw Cut' is when you place the blade against an object (or your opponent) and draw the sword through in a slicing motion.

My bad, I should have known better but got in a hurry. I know what "draw cut" means and in hindsight, I should have made the title "Cutting on the Draw" instead. ;D

Nice... and that Albion Mercenary is a very attractive swqord as well. I remain green with envy.

Nice cutting! and a very nice looking sword. That scabbard suspension system seems a good one for the purpose. Thanks for sharing, Debbie
