Hi all I received my Folded Kris Katana today ,very nice .Ill post some pics over the weekend . Im wanting to get a durable cutter looking at either the Cheness Shobu - Zukuri Kurome or one of the Raptors .Anyone had experience with the both of them ?How did they compare ? Any info would be appreciated.

Inless you just want to get a different brand why not go with a KC 29a it's a 5160 steel blade.

Hi there ,i was considering that option ,but alas the store I order from (as im not in the USA) does not have it currently ,so Im left choosing from between the Cheness or Raptor (Im not fond of the cold steel).I dont really want to order from anyone else as I always ordered with these guys and their service is terrific .

terrifically bad or terrifically good? Anyways, as I haven't handles any of said swords I can only comment on the 9260 type of steel. It's quality is excellent, I can assure you. Just watch the destruction tests on the cheness 9260 lines and my own review where I cut a thick dowl with absolutely no damage or loss of edge retention.

(You can PM me if you want to keep it a secret from the rest) if there's a vendor outside US I'd like to know too, please. Basically I tend towards hanwei since I own and handled some of their swords, but never held a cheness.

Hanwei has much higher quality swords than Cheness. Knowing how tough the non-spring steel line of Hanwei is, I can only imagine that there spring steel line is good.

Im also leaning more towards the Hanwei ,the only thing is the lack of Hamon ,but at least they have not brushed one on ,hate that .

The etched hamon on the cheness will eventually disappear, depends on what you're doing with it.

True ,I wish they had made a diff Hardened Raptor (They could have used one of their Practical blades)as well ,even if it was at a slightly higher price point .

They could have added it as an extra to the range , wishful thinking i know Nah... like Master said, DH the swords would totaly defeat the purpass. The Raptor line was created to be TOUGH... and to be used by backyard cutter types who dont cut mats but all kinds of odd targets that would possibly chip and damage the edge of Hanwei's DH blades. Also, my personal opinion, Hanwei created the Raptor line to directly combat Cheness's TH line. I would go with the Raptor... I belive the blade on the Cheness and the Raptor will both be roughly equal, but your fit and finish and fittings with the Hanwei Raptor will be much better then with the Cheness. On another note... We have a LOT of members who are outside the USA and have trouble finding good vendors to buy from. If you have one you are very happy with, and they have treated you well, well be so quiet and secrative about it? Shout it from the rooftops... so everyone can know. I'm sure the vendor would appricate the free advertisement, and the members from out of the USA would appricate having another option. After all, thats a huge part of what we are here for, to help each other.

True , Well i use kultofathena for all my orders , their pricing is really good , in fact most of the times they are well below the competitors . Plus there shipping and communication is great ! I usually order with them once a month , i place my order and it ships out the next day . The other useful thing about their site is that you can actually see what is in stock and they have it with them so no long waiting periods . Their communication is also top notch with Ryan more than willing to answer my numerous questions, normally on the same day as well, even with the time difference ! What I really like though is I usually order 3 swords or katana at a time , this fits into one of their 42 inch shipping boxes , they inspect the goods before hand and then package themselves . On ave I would pay around $90 shipping for a box with 3 katana in !So $30 per katana for international shipping to South Africa ! Not bad !The only thing is you dont get the original boxes they come in , but heck i save a bundle and afterall its the katana im after , not the boxes they come in .
