Hello all,
In another thread some of y’all were discussing the atributes of the Atlanta Cutlery U.S. Hvy vs. Lt Cavalry sabres. So I thought I would post the differences, with pics, etc. Prices also included:
ATLANTA CUTLERY’S 1860 LT CAV SABRE
Here is what the website said:
The hand forged blade of the M-1860 Light Cavalry Saber is British military spec steel that will flex over 20° and return to true. Leather handle is wire wrapped. Curving blade is superbly designed for penetration (thrust) and as a slashing weapon. Originally copied from an earlier French issue saber and manufactured in the North and in Europe for the lads in blue. Our excellent reproduction is hand made and ready for use. A stout steel scabbard completes this legendary sword. It evokes the unflinching bravery of Antietam, Manassas, Gettysburg. $3.00 additional shipping & handling charge with item, can be sharpened for an additional fee. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®.
Overall: 41"
Blade: 35"
Price Unsharpened: $ 98.99
Price Sharpened: $107.00
I wonder why they did not list any other blade measurements the way the did the one below? I have one and the blade is 3/16” thick. Their website says the Heavy Sabre is 9/32” thick. So there is indeed a difference between them.
-------------------------------------------------
ATLANTA CUTLERY’S “HEAVY CAVALRY SABRE”
I suppose they meant the 1842 Hvy Cav Sabre. But here is what their website said about it:
This fine saber has a 1065 high carbon steel blade with full tang and is well tempered. An authentic replica of the highest caliber. This historically accurate saber was well known as the “Wrist Breaker”. The model 1840 Cavalry Saber has a three branch brass guard, brass wire wrapped black leather grip, and comes with a steel scabbard. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®.
Overall: 41-1⁄4"
Blade: 35-3⁄4" x 11⁄4" x 9⁄32"
Wt: 2 lbs/5 oz
Price Unsharpened: $149.95
Price Sharpened: $167.00
