I have two Cheness Katanas A Nagasa and Kaze. I'm moving from Calgary Canada to Phoenix Arizona Tuesday and am in the process of packing.
I know the swords are completely legal to own, however i'm worried that in the process of our ABF u-pack trailer going through customs, this may hold things up if they're listed on the customs form. However if the trailer is randomly screened and they find them and they aren't declared.. that's a bigger problem.
I think i'm worrying too much about listing them as they are not Illegal to have. I plan on listing them as "Ornamental Swords or Ornamental Cutlery"
Tips? thoughts? help!

I've never dealt with US customs, but I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you. Anyway though, as a resident of Tucson I welcome to sunny Arizona! Just in time for the hottest part of the year too, have fun with that. ;D

List them as 'historical reproductions'. It's the term DSA uses, and seems to work pretty well. Just my $0.02, though. -Slayer

I have a simple solution. If you know where you are moving, ship them via UPS or FedEx to your new address in the US with your signature required. You will probably beat it down, but just in case you don't, don't worry about it. They will attempt deliver 3 times and hold it for you if you ask.
If you do not have an address yet, contact the UPS store/Mailboxes ETC in the area and rent a post office box. Ship it there. They will hold it til you pick it up.
I've done this with stuff from Europe all the time, man. Trust me, it works. ;D
