I hope you all got the Del Tins you wanted. KoA raised the prices about 30% yesterday. It's sad because I wanted a couple more, but now the prices are over what alot of second-hand A&As, Albions, and ATrims are running.
It was fun while it lasted! ;D

I noticed it also...I was seriously going for one but then this price hike occurred...I wonder if it's still worth it now...being Canadian you have to think of currency conversion, transport, duties, taxes, etc. etc. ...Oh well...I wonder if the prices of Art Elwell on A Work of Art are up-to-date, if so they are cheaper now then than at KOA...

I think, at this point, the only DT I'll own will be one of those moat sale blades if they're still available...

Will someone remind me why anyone would get a DT when they could get an ATrim instead? Thanks! ;D -Slayer

Because Del Tins, by and large, are good swords and have been for a LONG time.

Because Del Tins, by and large, are good swords and have been for a LONG time. True, true. When I was more into western style blades, I owned quite a few Del Tins. They're tough as nails. I still own one of the old "Moonbrand" styles with the little running dog (or wolf?) stamped on the blade. It's a heavy monster and not sharpened, but I just can't part with it. ATrims are geat, but there is still something about the feel of Del Tins that I always liked.

I never got the chance to lay my hands on a Del tin, and i must admit that a number of their models are tempting me, but they seems to be on the heavy side a bit, not unlike DSA's. They look very well made, full of details and get only good comments, the variety of their models is absolutly incredible and they look to be a very good quality/price investment... that was before the price increase... Now.. i would only get one by Art Elwell. KoA has step up their prices by a good margin, one i'm not going to cross to get one of those.
As for the Atrims... they are a totally different breed, built for performance not for the looks, but if you can put on some cash to customize them... wow, now you're in business, but that would cost you a lot more than a Del tin...

I am a huge Del Tin fan. Twelve years ago, they were just about the only game in town as far as a good sword went. I think that they are good, but you can get alot more in a sword for $500-$800 these days. I own a variety of swords and Del Tin is a well-made blade, but at the new KoA price point - to be honest, well, Del Tins are not worth their cost now.
For example, to make a Del Tin a good practical sword, you have to spend hours honing down the edge, perform a refinish, and do a regrip (and probably reform as well). If you look at the time you invest and what you get when you purchase an Albion, A&A, or ATrim - well, the value just is not there if you are spending more than $400 or so for the Del Tin.
KoA is now charging more than what it would cost to get a Del Tin directly from Italy - even with shipping figured in. I am not sure what happened here, but whatever sales momentum KoA with these models just stopped butt cold in this market climate. It could be that Fulvio raised prices, shipping increased, or KoA needed a greater profit maragin - or a little of all three.
Del Tins at KoA were a damn good deal. Now? Not so much. I still believe that Del Tin makes a good sword, but I'll not pay premium sword prices when the market is currently flooded with second-hand Albions, ATrims, and A&A at less cost to the end buyer.

I've been told that the price hike originated in Italy...

DAMN, DAMN, DAMN! I have a decent collection of Brazilnut pommel early medieval swords started, but the next ones need to be Del Tin. I was this far away from ordering the most needed one a month ago. Sure wish I had taken the plunge then. I just can't justify the cost now, compared to what I'd be getting. Oh well, time to wait and think about something else...

ShooterMike: Out of curiosity, which one was it? I was looking at the 2131 myself... Yep, that's one of 'em. The 2131 and the 2130 are the two that would go a long way toward completing my Brazilnut pommel collection.

Sheesh...he has a collection based on pommel type...who doesn't want to be THIS guy? I envy your collection, Mike...but I'm also grateful that you have it, gives those of us who are but fledglings an idea of what having your own armory may look like. I'd bet you could probably arm about two dozen or so troops with really good swords, yea?
