As for finding the furniture, I'm finding some very interesting butterfly-themed tsuba, to start with, menuki should be easy, too. Fuchi and kashira, and if you want a kojiri, that might pose a challenge... I'm finding that Japanese butterflies are hideous things, but this particular tsuba is rather nice: www.cgfinearts.com/select_product.cfm?ID=301&GalleryID=2This one, too: www.trocadero.com/barrykid/items/705124/en1.htmlEven this one is pretty good, if you can find somebody who will copy it: www.dhub.org/object/182943,Charitable+organisations However, these: www.nihonto.us/KINAI%20BUTTERFLY%20TSUBA.htm (I'm seeing a lot of butterflies like this on various antique tsuba) are ugly Of course, this is only my personal opinion. I've always found the traditional Japanese artistic sense a little...different.

Wow now you have gotten very specific, which is not bad or anything, but will require more time and money investment. I was going to suggest checking out the SBG custom sword. There is a shade of ito and saya that are kind of a pinkish red, kinda sorta. Dunno, but check it out. You can choose from a pretty large list of tsuba and menuki(no butterflies that I saw).
But if you are really going to go all out with your specifics above, then take some time to find a blade that suites you. Either a fully funished blade or one in just shirasaya. Then spend some time searching the net for the fittings you want. Dragonfly is pretty easy to come by, don't think I've come across butterfly. Then find someone, such Skip Gardner or another of our members, to do the customization of putting it all together for you.

I think plain black fuchi/ kashira would be good for this. I wanna know more about the failures on the DF Mushas. So far I've seen only one unfavorable review on them. How recent are these negative reviews?

I have no idea how old the reviews were...I'm sorry I didn't think to bookmark them either. I spent approx. 6 hours total searching any site on the net I could find that was related to the DF musha blade. I'm not saying anything bad about them because I know zero about the blades. I found very few reviews in total and most of the positive reviews I read seemed to say they were average blades overall but very good choices for that price range. The negative reviews were based on problems some individuals had with their swords..dunno. When I started this search I had limited myself to a $300 sword but after a lot of research and advice I've decided I would rather spend more money for something really special. This will be the only sword I'll probably ever buy so I want it to the best I can afford. Please don't think I'm disparaging any of the swords you guys suggested because I'm not. You guys have no idea how much I value your advice and opinions. I've learned TONS since joining this forum Thanks for finding the butterfly menuke Gman! I found one that I really loved but it was already sold by the time I inquired. I like the idea of a solid sterling silver menuke like the one you found. Don't care too much for the near $100 price tag but I think it will make the sword that much more special when it's done. I still haven't found a butterfly tsuba like I wanted but I found one that I think will look nice once it's nickel plated. www.japanese-swords.com/tsuba-gallery/frameset.htm (#78) Originally I wanted the tsuba to be an actual butterfly cut out but doesn't look like such a thing exists.

That'd be why we're here. Keep looking, and send some emails to some of the modern custom guys, one of them might offer you a deal on stuff made just how you want. Never know. btw etc.

I'm leaning towards the Dynasty Forge "Bushi" line swords as the start for my custom sword..are these good blades? This is where my lack of knowledge really comes into play. There are several different 'models' of this line of sword on Wiwingtis's website. I can't really tell the differences in them other than the blade length. Are they just different as far as tsuba's and menuke and such? My brain is starting to hurt

You could inquire with Brian from Roninswords on a good monosteel diff hardened blade, Deshi. In pink. For $600.
I know this may sound bias but from cutting a lot with friends, I'm partial to the Kris Cutlery 29A (or 29II). Great, great blade. 5160 steel, The fittings are good and tight, tsuka is curved (yes curved for that price). A great looking sword. All you got to do is get someone to: 1) bring the hamon out 2) get the pink/silver stuff on there.
I know Cecil is getting some 29A bare blades comes end of July, early August. I think the price is at around $150.
Another one to think of is the Musashi from Marc. It's $80 with hamon and all. Plenty of room to spend on pink. You might be able to afford a pink swordbag, too. FYI I don't know how good this blade is.

Oh yeah, KC is another good option. They have some folded blades, too. Have a look at their stuff (.com is all it takes) and if you find something interesting, email them. I hear they're good people.

Wellll if you are going to up the money for the project 1) I believe Fred Lohman at the site I listed for the fittings will do some custom work, ie cast something in a different metal. Will charge more then listed price probably. 2) go to guys like www.taganearts.com/ and get exactly what you want, but pay the price tag with it. There are probably other places to get fully custom fittings made, but that's the only one I know of, and I know someone who used him and was very happy with it.

Have you considered the SBG custom katana? It's hard to tell from the photos, but the crimson ito and saya look almost like they could be pink. I haven't seen it in person, but maybe someone who has one with those colors could tell you? Just a thought.

You can also get white Ito and dye it pink. Or get Slavia to do it. I am sure he might be able to.

If you want a Silver coloured tsuba then you could try to get someone to cut it from a plate of stainless... yes stainless It will look really nice polished and it will be very low maintenance.

*jealous* I'm still deciding on my next sword, either a bastard/two handed euro or a katana

I got the sword from a friend. Supposedly an antique WWII katana, but has been proven a chinese copy. The blade is folded steel, it has a massive sori and not sure if it is heat treated properly or not.
