Can't say I like the overall shield shape, but your friend has an eye for detail...these are pieces of art now.

Actually these were used more by crossbowmen rather than archers because of the time needed to reload the crossbow.

I guess I should've written "...bysomeone shooting arrows..." and I probably would've passed with that, eh?

Well actually, crossbowmen fires bolts or quarrels, not arrows.

Those are lovely! How big are they? They are 75x 50 cm. M. Eversberg II is right. They were used as hand pavises rather than standing cover(they are not big enough). Pavises like this were used also by light cavalry. Here is a picture that can give you a better idea of it's size.

NAILED IT! Did your friend do those free-hand, or with a template? I am particularly interested in that last one; it's a perfect rendition of St. George Slaying the Dragon... M.

Actually more like physics and aerodynamics.

Not in your argument; yours was simply based on word choice- physics and aerodynamics did not figure into it. That would be a different argument.

Ok then, let's just say that I used the proper and accurate wording.

We can say that so long as you can say to me, definitively, that archers never used them. If they ever did, then my original remarks hold true. Either way, a shield is a shield is a shield, something to hide behind, no matter who uses it.
On second thought; I'll allow the semantics in the spirit of brotherhood as we've hijacked this man's thread long enough. Cheers.
