I figure I will eventually customize a bareblade, even if my next katana will probably be a DF/Bugei/MAS, and so have been looking at tsuba. I've looked through a few sites listed here on this forum (ninecircles etc) but most of what I've found wasn't really what I was looking for. Most of the quality (i.e not 25$ Hanwei) tsuba I've seen had various fake "antique" looks to them that were rather displeasing. What I truly want is the kind of tsuba with a "rugged texture" and some figure on top on it, preferably a creature in silver. Like on these: [/img]http://i.ebayimg.com/01/!BTdZ8ZQ!mk~$(KGrHgoOKkYEjlLmbku,BKIpcO5!uQ~~_1.JPG[/img] thaitsuki.com/images/products/lrg/ktn5topview3-lrg.jpgFrom what I've seen, prices vary, Anthony DiChristofana sells tsuba from a tsubashi in Japan with over 30 years of experience for around 300$, shadowofleaves.com offers some seemingly high quality ones from Citadel for under 100$, but I've also seen new tsuba for 1000$. What would be an expected price to pay for a tsuba of the Bugei Lion Dog/Hanwei Paper Crane quality? Any custom makers I should look into?

Yea, www.taganearts.com does full custom fittings. A dojo mate had him make some and they turned out beautiful. Also don't forget about Fred Lohman at www.japanese-swords.com Huge selection of fittings, and I think he will do customs too.
