The sword itself looks gaudy and cheep looking to me... but I am by NO means any kind of expert. However, the seller has changed Ebay ID's recently and has no feedback yet under the new ID... and is selling a bunch of these funky looking swords... my jaded nature makes me suspicious.

Hmmm... A fair-enough-looking blade in some super-fancy mounts (of what material, I wonder? "Copper alloy" tells me oh-so-much nothing.)
It's nice looking, but I don't know if I'd trust it beyond that. They could at least have had the decency to alternate the ito crossovers...
Or to not include the pictures of the old guy and the ugly kid cutting with some random other sword...
If it stays below $100 it'd be a decent buy if you intend to shelve it, but I'd not use it unless I remounted it... That's just me, though...
Seeing shadowhowler's post now, which contains information I didn't bother looking for, I would definitely advise staying away.

I have to agree with randomnobody here the tuska-ito is done wrong, the same looks qustionable??? and the fitings look cheap. The blade on the other hand looks pretty but I think the hamon is eather wire brushed or acid eched.Thats just what I saw in the pics+i'd be a little worried about him not having any feedback.

I wouldn't get it. The thing that puzzles me is why they're showing pictures of people practicing tameshigiri with weapons that *aren't* shown in the Ebay ad?
Save your money for a more legit dealer who has their own website.

If anyone can send it from AUS to Norway, I'll buy it and test it.

I think he's got a wig too... Noone seeing the hamon dropping off before the kissaki, and starting probably under the habaki? That's probably the main reason for it being so cheap. It's a faulty blade in that context. It probably won't affect cutting much though unless you hit something with the kissaki or use it for hard targets. I've even seen reputable dealers selling of swords with incomplete hamon. The "copper alloy" is probably cast brass, for those who don't know brass is an alloy of zinc and copper. It was used on nihonto too. The unalternating ito is standard chinese, and you can even find it on more expensive swords. I'd say a nice display efu tachi, and could be used for light cutting depending on the build quality of the tsuka and fittings.

I can't even see a decent shot of the kissaki to judge whether it drops or not. Where are you seeing this? As to "standard chinese," Hanwei, Dynasty Forge, and others are all Chinese. They alternate their ito properly. Maybe standard bad Chinese. For the Hamon, I do believe it is a legitimate hardening of the steel, however it has most likely been enhanced via acid rather than the "full traditional polish" they keep mentioning. At any rate, the single biggest turnoff on this deal is "some kid" with long, messy hair, cutting a mat with...a different sword. Fancy stuff!

If it is under $100 I'd call it ok; if its garbage, you're not out much money- if it turns out like the ubiquitous Masahiro Bamboo, which was built and made better than even the merchant knew, you might have a decent sword on your hands.
Bottom line, if you're still looking at it a week from now and you're still wanting it- get it.

The first and last shot. Seems to end half an inch from the kissaki, but it's very hard to see. I tried to enchance a pic: I don't think it's clay hardened, to speculate a little, I think it's only oil and water quenched. That's why the hamon drops off. I have a sword with a hamon like this (goes all the way to the tip, though), and it's probably the hardest edge I've got. I don't think it's necessarily acid enchanced, depends on the steel and lighting. May be the pics that shows the hamon well. But as said, just speculation.

I don't know about those shots, the lighting is really bad and it's hard to say one way or the other. Hamon do fade at the wrong angles and are subject to lighting, but in your enhanced version it does look like it just stops...but without a real close-up in good lighting, I won't say one way or the other.
The hamon does sort of look double-quenched, but it's hard to say these days...

Looks intersting. I believe the hamon is real. If it weren't for the hamon seeming to go very very thin at the habaki, then I would be very very interested in buying it (for the blade alone, of course).
I wonder what forge made it, and if they will be making more blades like this (hopefully with more consistent hamons)...
