Umm, it's pretty good.
I'm not really a fan of this on swords in Buke mounts, but yours is pretty good.
And the Sageo is indeed a little...odd.
Thanks, -Tajima

I'll have to get my 'ol lady to re-tie a presentation knot for me...cause I suck at it.

It's a little rough in some spots... but I love the natural wood look on saya's... and I love that sword too!

I'll have to go over it again with some fine grit...rinse and repeat. It's odd...in person you can't see the rough spots that much... damn macro feature. lol. Some rattan would be nice too. That blade is too nice for a standard black saya.

Rattan would be awesome. I think you should do it.

I've used the red mahogany stain on a number of things, it's a beautiful color. I personally like the rough finish you've got there. It goes well with the color and the streaks of black. Nice work.

If you are going to do it I can help you out with how to do the Rattan, it's ridiculously easy...
Thanks, -Tajima

Maybe my local craft store will have some. I just got done sanding/staining/spraying the rough spots above the kurigata up to the koiguchi...it's looking better. I'll post some pics of it later. ;D

Great job, Oni! I don't like this particular look much, but you really make it look good. The black laquered areas blends well into the stained. I think the rough areas on the pics actually fits the rest, but pics always give away small flaws you won't see in real life. My tsukamakis looks awful on pics, methinks. A rattan binding equal length in both directions from the kurikata to the koiguchi and down the saya would make it look even better in my opinion too, either in black gloss as a contrast (black enamel brush paint), or stained the same colour as the saya itself. I'd cut the rattan at an angle to avoid overlap at start and finish. Makes it a little trickier, but better looking.

Oni,
Yeah, go to either your craft store or something similar to Spotlight, which is like a massive shop which sells curtains, carpet, material, sewing machines etc. etc. and different stuff for crafts and weaving.
It's pretty cheap. Once you get it give me a bell.
Thanks, -Tajima

Everytime I pull this katana out of the saya I still get excited...like X-mas or something. I'm gonna check out Michaels(local arts and crafts store) here soon, I hope I can find some rattan there...

Great Job!!! For some reason I have always liked wood grain finish, this is why I also love Kris Cutlery swords so much. Kris swords are a bit more clear, with the green ito I like your finish better.
