Hi Guys Its been along time away ,but iv decided its time to get myself another katana .That being said i need your help in making a decision as iv narrowed it down to 3 choices ,here they are : Kris Cutlery Kanbum Katana Cheness 9260 Shobu-Zukuri Katana Kurome Hanwei Raptor Unokubi Zukuri Katana
Iv read some reviews on the above katana ,but still am having a tough time settling on any of them ,any advise or even personal experiences with any of the above will be appreciated . I will be doing some light cutting but nothing more than that really . Thanks

I've no real experience with those particular swords though I've heard good and bad about all three. The only thing I can really offer on them is that you've listed three very different animals here. Personally, I'd likely go with the KC, but expect to do some touching up on the polish. The pictures on the website look pretty rough and polish is one of the areas KC tends to slip, but they make very good blades and there's a lot under there if you know how to bring it out. The Cheness I'd steer away from but only because I personally don't care for Cheness. There are other through-hardened shobu-zukuri blades out there for about the same price that are just...better. The Raptor u-no-kubi...well, I'm not sure what it's doing with that zany crest on the kissaki but otherwise it seems a fine sword. Hanwei does good stuff, but I'd go with a Practical before a Raptor... Pretty much all those blades are rated well for "light cutting" and most can handle "medium" and "heavy" cutting as well, the through-hardened blades (raptor, kurome) are rated especially well for beginning cutters versus more traditionally-leaning differentially-hardened blades like the Kambun, but as long as you're not utterly terrible at cutting, you'll not notice much difference in the three. Good luck with whatever you decide; let us know what you get.

I have no experience with these models but:
The quality of Paul chen/ Hanwei never let me down. They just deliver a good quality blade and fittings. And the cut very well. I just love my Pratcial plus elite.
I own a model Kris Cutlery katana and i like it very much. (there are 2 of it on the scratch and dent sales on the site)Katana 29 #3964 no fancy stuff just basic but get's the job done.
Cheness: i don't own one

I played with a friend's Raptor u-dun-no-skubi a while back. It's a good sword. Big. It's got a huge tsuka (too big for me), and fittings are excellent. The blade is cool looking. Tight saya.
Cheness is good after you remount (still kinda good if you don't).
My personal fav is the Katana 29-II (I have the prototype). The gripes are 1) The polish hide the hamon 2) the split at bottom of habaki, minor annoyance. You can put this blade though hell and it's still kicking.
If you got big hands, I say go for the rapski.

I have a Cheness Kurome. I have no complaints; I've used it and it performs well.

I've cut with the Kurome and it did really well, especially against hard targets, as you would expect from 9260 spring steel.

I would go with Hanwei or Kris Cutlery. I am not as big a fan of Cheness as I used to be... Plus Hanwei has a real hamon.

Yeah, KC's pics are pretty bad, which is a shame because I hear such good things about their products.

Almost everything Kris Cutlery makes has a hamon hidding in it... the make all kinds of weapons DH that you would not expext... including many of their Western and Chiness swords. I bought a couple weapons from Kris Cutlery recently... one of them was great... the other was a little jacked... but I will say this, their customer service was amazing. When I contacted them about replaced the sword that was bad... they were quick and super helpfull. Because of that... and because I belive their weapons have some potential, I look forward to buying from them again. My impression is that some of the assembly of their stuff is a bit rough... and most of their weapons seem very plain... but the blades on them seem to be GREAT. Real solid workhourse weapons.
