First, I would like to say hello to all my fellow sword enthusiasts. This is my first post in the forums, but I've been following SBG for quite a few months now. On to my question. Has anyone purchased or handled the following sword: www.musashiswords.com/shop/product.php?productid=98&cat=28&page=1I am looking at purchasing it and I've only managed to find one review on it. While detailed and quite positive, the review didn't mention anything about any cutting tests. Also, it's on sale for a ridiculous price, so I kinda need to act fast, as I don't know how long it'll be on sale. This will be my second sword and I want it to be a fully functional, battle-ready sword. My first is quite the wall-hanger even though I've used it to practice forms with. Thanks in advance for any input.

Hi truehart There was quite a heated discussion regarding the takeo katana a few months ago, on whether the sword is differentially hardened (DH) or not. Your choice of katana would most likely be a DH katana (except for Takeo SS783, if I am not mistaken all Takeo with SS800 and above are DH)
Here is a link of the takeo katana with different tsuba from the forum: /index.cgi?board=japaneseswords&action=display&thread=9858
Some old discussion from SBG forum: /index.cgi?board=japaneseswords&action=display&thread=9099
For most people this is the best sub $100 sword you can buy. But as adage go, you get for whatever the price you pay. There are some concern that the handle (tsuka) maybe cracked. Check out whether the tsuka is in good condition once you receive the sword and return it (for replacement) if the handle has noticeable cracks.
Although the blade is functional, the blade is good for light cutting only. Also the blade is not razor sharp like higher price hanwei blade so you might want to sharpen it before cutting. I bought a zetsurin from them and it not sharp enough to cut a bottle. But if it is only for practice and forms, you do not need to sharpen and it a really nice blade for price of $100. Be careful because even though its not razor sharp it is still sharp nonetheless.
Also when buying from musashiswords.com don't forget to put in coupon SBG10 before checking out to get a 10 percent discount.

I've had the pleasure of handling it and it handles very well. Very nice tachikaze as well, very easy to achive too. I haven't cut anything with it either I'm afraid because I gave it to a friend and he found the sword to be "to pretty to use". It's his first sword so he's very maticulous about preserving it ^^.
But handling and fittingswise (and the one I got is most likely DH) you can't go wrong for that kind of money. If you're searching for a good sword but don't have a lot of money (which includes 4/5th of the people here :\ ) this is a really good sword to buy.

I've had 3 "Bamboo Warrior" katana and they are all good light cutters.(It has the same blade as the link you provided.)The one I kept is now my favorite "beater". I have taken down 2'' tree branches no problem.(I don't advise this) The blade will take a set more easier than a Hanwei. Don't expect a great heat treatment on the Takeos.

I ordered the Musashi SS808bk one week ago and it's arriving tomorrow. They are essentially the same thing so I'll provide some details on the cutting capabilities.
