Greetings, all I recently managed to scrape some extra money from here and there, so i decided to buy a Daisho, something i'm planning on for long enough. Since my budget is low, and it's going to be mainly for display, i thought of buying wallhangers at first, but i can't bear the thought of lousy stuff like that loitering around. So i decided to buy the Hanwei practical light katana (now called the "pracitcal special), and the practical wakizashi. I have some questions regarding them-
1- Do any of you know if the practical wakizashi has a glued tsuka like the older PK's? 2- Same question as above, just for the PSK? 3- Do i get swordbags with them? ;D 4- After tons of research, i found out that the Practical special has the same blade as the PPK. I know the practical wakizashi is made of 1566 steel, but what is the PSK/PPK made of? Some say 1065, some say 1095, some even say 1080. Does anybody know?
And in general, if any of you have expirience with those swords, you are more than welcome to contribute your opinion. They are going to be used for display and light cutting only (the most they will ever do would be a tatami/bamboo, and only seldomly)

1 - no idea 2 - the PKLite is traditional & is not glued 3 - plain no frills black bags 4 - from what ive read, i think 1566 is the best bet
if you are buying for display, consider that the pk series looks plain, but it is for sure functional
have you considered things like musashi? they might meet your budget.
nothing wront with the pk's though.... apart from fake same.....

as i know, there are no glued tsuka on any of the Hanwei swords.
in the past it have been done, but, as i've been answered (by my representent at hanwei), there is none since a long time.
as for the practical special katana,, it is the same blade as the practical light,, i have a praqctical li9ght and it is very great forthe price.
look at that video here

No glue? awesome. The blades might be mounted into a shirasaya in one point or another, and about musashi- The thing is that i want DF, real hamon etc. Even the simple blades from hanwei give you that. Thanks for the video, marc, looks great, the cuts are clean as hell. Well, fake same aside, this combo meets my demansa perfectly. Thanks for the answers.

I just sold a Hanwei Practical Daisho... ya just missed it. Like Marc (Wiwingti) said, they did not have the glued tsukas anymore, Katana or Wakizashi. Some of the olders ones did, but the new ones do not. I found them to be VERY nice swords... and the Kisaki were very different on them then most I have seen, with a very rounded tip... defenitly different. They are a bit plain... but very nice looking in my opinion and VERY functional.

Upon first inspection and a little dry handling they're very nice and well worth the price.

Man, you're helpless. Just got a musha, at least enjoy it for a while! And as I said before...using a practical for display is... weird. But you can't go wrong with that price. Let's hope it'll go right through customs again like last time. Anyway, more swords you buy more we have in our moyoushi here

It's not like i'm selling the Musha, you know... And they won't be 100% for display, if it's functional- i WILL use it. It's just that i can't even imagine keeping garbage in my collection....

if you look not to buy garbage for your collection it is normal, but one thing, the practical line isn't garbage man lol.
some are maybe a bit more durable, some maybe a bit less durable but for sure, great cutters.
my .02 cents

wiwingti - I was digging the music, and the cutting was okay too. I wish I could have gotten the Hanwei Practical Daisho from Shadow, but darn if my wallet is as big as my desire

You know, if you were a US resident (always the catch, that) it might have been interesting to pick up a Practical daisho and ship it off to slav (or skip, even) and have him mount it up to your liking, in slav's case even give it a new hybrid polish, maybe? (does skip do that or just mounting? I forget... ) I wonder if there's anybody your side of the world (yourself? ) who might do the same work for a decent price...

I thought of buying wallhangers for display, but i decided to go for the more expensive hanwei daisho i'm currently planning, for the cause of NOT having garbage in my collection. I know the practical series are great.

aaaaaaaaaaaand.... Ordered! Will give pics-a-plenty once they arrive.
Randomanybody- I missed your message before, so i'll answer now- I already started making a 2-sword rack, and i have expirience in woodwork, so i might very well start customizing swords.... there's no one around who does that, and sure as hell we need one over here.
