Hey everyone. I'm thinking about buying a Kreighschwert, but I want to dye it black. Can you dye already- finished leather? If so, how? I have no experience in any type of leather work or carpentry, so please explain the process in a way that that even I could understand.

You should ask Sonny about having it done up in black for you; worth a shot if it means you don't have to do aught but marvel at the thing.

Not sure if that CAN be done without ruining the wood core scabbard or the grip... Unless you just used black shoe polish and made it a reallllly dark brown.
But I am no expert.

It can be done but it depends a lot on the leather and whether or not it has a sealant applied. I would heavily advise finding someone who knows leather in your area that can look at it and tell you.
If you have a Tandy Leather Factory in your area they would be a good place to start and would have the proper dye. I recommend the professional oil dye as it doesn't bleed once it's dried and is available in small bottles.
The dye shouldn't do any damage to the wood core, just stain it what ever color your dyeing the leather, sorta like wood stain, but I wouldn't call that the proper way to do it. Ideally the leather should come off then be reapplied. I'm not familiar with that blade so I don't know if that's an option.
I recommend going with Ebon's advice and talking with someone who knows the product. It shouldn't be that big a deal but you really need to know what the type of leather is. Most types of leather shouldn't be a problem, especially going with black, but I've tried dying some oil tanned leather and it came out with some funny tints. Those leathers that have a shiny surface I imagine would also be difficult for the dye to penetrate but I've never tried to dye them.
Best of luck.
Best of luck.
