Hello! I'm new here. I'm also new to sword collecting. I just bought my first sword, the War Sword by Hanwei. I have read that leather paste wax is the best product to use on the scabbard and handle of the sword. This may be a dumb question, but does anyone recommend a certain brand? I am very fond of my sword, and I don't want to hurt it. ;D Thanks!

Unless the leather was not sealed, I should think you probably wouldn't have to do much but keep it clean and dry. I own a number of swords and have had them for several years (some of them) - the only maintenance I've ever performed was to the blades. Just my $0.02. Congrats on your sword purchase...if it is the one I'm thinking of, its a good start. Pretty much any Hanwei is a good starter sword.
You may want to ask around before doing anything to the leather bits of your sword- there are many here who are much more knowledgeable than I.

I don't think you want to put any type of oil on the handle of a sword. You wouldn't want it to slip while swinging! The natural oil of your hands should be enough to keep the leather supple. As far as the other leather parts go, Neat's Foot Oil is great for softening new stiff leather and will provide some water repellancy.

For sealed leather, if you live in a dry enviroment- Take a humid cloth, swipe over the leather. Or another way- just spray a tiny bit of water onto it, wipe with a dry tissue. Do so once every 2 months, it's way more than enough, and it's not even nessecary. For unsealed leather- There isn't much difference between the brands. Wax is wax, works about the same.

I have used neutral Kiwi on everything for years. It seems to have worked fine with no issues.
