We use blunted steel in my organization, the Schola St. George. However, you must be a member (covered under insurance) and in head to toe plate harness to do so. Unlike the SCA, we don't have an abundance of rules requiring our armor to be a certian gauge thickness or need a set amount of padding, its all what you comfortably safe fighting in.
For example, I sacrifice wearing a full hauberk under my plate and only wear a gambeson, an aventail and a chain skirt. I do this for better mobility and less weight, however there are guys that do wear the full hauberk.
And yes, it does hurt from time to time.

Odingaard, does your group have any affiliations in the North East (NY, PA, NJ, MD or DC)? I know Bill fights in a live steel group in NY but I'm looking for something just a touch closer to home. gumby, I agree...are we not men?

The SCA doesn't have all that many rules on our armour. In fact, if what you said is the mandatory minimum, then we have much LESS restrictive requirements for our armour. Of course, we don't use live steel...
Anyway, back to the original point of the thread: I use Red Falcon Armouries for most of my work. He's a little back up right now, though, what with Pennsic coming on.
And I can never remember the name of the company I got my shield from. Starts with a W but isn't Windlass...
