Anyone who makes custom armour will make armour to fit you. If they meet with you in person and take measurements, it'll probably fit you quite well...

If you follow the neasuring guidelines honestly, it will fit well. Don't subtract from the waist or add to the chest/biceps as a matter of pride and it will be perfect from Schmitthenner everytime.

Just tell people to remember that being fat back in antiquity meant that you were wealthy and powerful. At least that's what I tell people... ;D

Actually gladiators were quite fat, too. The "bonus material" made it possible to get cut more often without really getting badly injured. And we all know that the more wounds and blood on a gladiator, the happier the crowd. So best excuse for being overweight? "I am a modern gladiator, I need that mass to please my fans."

It would be a good idea to contact some SCA guys in your area even if you don't plan to fight. They will give you local contacts of armorers in your area. A lot of armorers work out of their garage or basement on the weekends and don't have websites. Don't pay more then 25% up front for any job. Pay as you see the job progress. If you live near NJ I can put you in touch with two armorers.
Do you know what kind or armor your want. I know you mentioned Greek. That could just be a mater of greeves, vambraces, a helmet and possibly a breast plate. Are you planing on doing any fighting ? If so I would have the greeves and vambraces extended to cover your knees and elbows. You will need a gorget too.

Here is a link with contacts in Artemisia. Artemisia consists of Utah, Montana, southern Idaho and the parts of Colorado and Wyoming. From this list you should send out emails and say that you are looking for armorers in the Montana area. You may be able to find someone very close to you or within 2 hours drive. You may also be able to go to some local practices and see different armor up close. www.artemisia.sca.org/groups.htm

I think Bill (tsafa) might know just about every armorer and shieldmaker in all of the SCA Kingdoms on the eastern seaboard. I would also like to throw in the Inner Bailey; they're quite good with leather and they have a top notch customer service agent in Susan- she's easy to talk to and knows armor so if you can't figure out the proper name, you could describe it and she'd get it. www.innerbailey.comGood luck!

Just tell people to remember that being fat back in antiquity meant that you were wealthy and powerful. At least that's what I tell people... ;D That is 100% truth! Not only in ancient times. Even in 17th century Poland a slim man was thougt to be poor. Just watch some pictures of polish hetmans ( equivalen of marshall/general) and kings And from my combat experience I can tell - there isn't many more devastating thingh in bohurt combat than a huge, heavily armoured guy with halberd! 0:24 The guy with a white cross on the black shield is me That large man in a red and yellow coat of arms has a powerfull blow with his halberd. All the weapons we use is steel...they canreally make much damage.

Think I need to visit Europe...their 'sport groups' use live steel, albeit blunted...I guess it is more prevalent over there; here there's so much concern for safety (and rightly so, no one wants to die at sport)...

yes but its equally fun to engage in some more realistic style combat!safetys good n all,but are we not men?we can judge for ourselves if the risk is reasonable compared to the reward of experience, whitch last time i checked is invaluable!
