Question: Weren't Nihonto typically constructed of Maru (One type of steel) lamination in the past, or at most Kobuse?

Zhou hated every step of the blade from the fittings to the blade ( I was VERY picky ) Wow... I myself would not be comfortable having made then owning a sword that the smith himself hated making and disliked everything about.

Shadow. You have to understand that a guy like zhou is used to getting a blade order and making pretty much what he wants and the person just says WOW. He had never made a blade like this one and I made them redo many steps of the blades making until it was exactly where it should have been. Besides the Habaki and fittings were somthing he had never even seen, so he did not like them because more work was required and many do overs. Wood blanks had to be custom, different materials had to be used ex. Basicly he was way out of his confort zone on this blade. BUT when it was done he was Impressed with it. He has a private forum for his dealers that he shows pics of the completed work to. One of them started selling this blade as a model for a $6,000 retail! When I found this out I called Kenneth at 6 in the morning his time and grilled him in a panic.... The Ad came down same day. Honestly man I kinda liked the blade more knowing he had to go through allot more trouble to make the sword. But you will find that most swords you have their makers can point out things they dont like about it. I owned a blade that James Raw Hated making, but when he was done he was going to let me publicly state that the blade was the best blade he had ever made..... Take skip gardner for example ( sorry for the name drop buddy ) when I first had him do work for me he had only worked on Cheness blades with cheap bottom of the bucket materials.... I handed him a $1600 blade with $500 worth of new mount material and when that blade was done it was his best work at that time, but when he was working on the mount to specific specks ( he had never mounted to such specks before ) and did not get them at first, but now he knows why I asked for such things he has more of a respect for the work..... But he at his high skill level now looks at that first piece and does not like it very much... because he is on a whole new level of knowlege and ability of sword work. The project we are working on now with the Last of the KC hira will push him harder than I have pushed his ability thus far.... but I cant wait to see it But even when it is done there is always somthing that can be picked on... If anyone wants a zheng wu look on tere contact page and talk to kenneth Hakegard....

The Zhou Forge Katana I am getting from Brian @ Ronin Swords is a semi-custom. He gets the blades from the Zhou Forge not sure if Zhou did it himself or not, but the only specs I gave were that it be an 8,000 Layer Hon-Sanmai Blade. Brian is doing the wrapping and fittings. I cannot wait! Yes I know these take time.
Of course it is going to be nowhere as good as a full custom that Ricky just showed us, but I'm optimistic that it will be decent.
I'm also getting the Dynasty Forge Bushi Tri-Steel forge folded. I can't wait to post pics of both, side by side for everyone.

Really can't wait to see that completed Zhou sword, both the forged blade by them, and Brian's work mounting it. I already have plans to save up and order a custom mounting from him on one of the Chris Zhou blades. I have a theme in mind, and finally located what fittings I want to go on it. Just need to save up the $$ to get it all done.

He can also order different spec Zhou blades as he gets his blades directly from the forge. Just give him your basic specs.
