What would be a easily obtainable solution to curing a loose saya? is it possible for someone with no craftmanship?

That is an excellent tutorial of how to tighten up a saya. It is exactly what I have learned and used in the past. The only thing that this tutorial leaves out is that the shim may be too thick causing a fit that is too tight. In this case it is handy to have some finger files (Very small files) that will fit into that spot in the saya that you put the shim. Then file the shim to have the fit you require. Also you should never put a shim on the side of the saya, you run the risk of splitting it and that would lead to a different repair and a different thread.
