I think that your oppinion is the most important on this, but here's mine anyway. ;D If you have any doubt of your ability/skill, don't risk it. If you're experienced enough, or just good at this type of thing, then sure. Why not? I mean, the WORST that could happen is that you ruin the wooden grip core and have to make or buy another. Is that so bad? Well, again, that question is up to you to answer. I know that *I* wouldn't try this project, but I'm a classic DIY failure. If you know what you're doing, then I'd say "DO IT!" Whatever you decide is fine, of course. If you DO attempt this feat of 'do-it-yourself'itude, be sure to show us! Lots of pictures, of course... I hope this helps! -Slayer

Maybe my opinion shouldn't hold much weight on this subject as I'm exactly like you. If a sword isn't to my taste, I'll start thinking of ways to make it work for me. It was bought with my money afterall. Hell, I just bought another Gus Trim specifically with the intent to modify it. + 1 2 another crazy thinker.

All I can say is... Post your results on here! I wouldn't call it crazy. I would not do it myself, as I love how it looks, but I do intend on customizing a lot of my other swords in the future. If you trust yourself enough to do this, then go for it!
So much for "All I can say is..." ;D

You've made it your own, and now it's priceless. Good job.

I see you've unpolished the brass as well. It's worth noting that Perma Blue gun blue works on brass too, and will make it black. You can then rub it back with a dry rag and some muscle to give it highlights. That can be fun, and give it a really aged look.
Good onya
