Yea, didn't see any swords either, but what I did see had a nice look to it.

I concur. I think that's probably the coolest helmet I've seen yet, and usually I'm not too fond of fantasy designs. I also like that trebuchet they have on the site, I've always wanted one of those. Wouldn't have any place to put it and the neighbors might not be too thrilled with me using one, but it would be pretty cool to have.

It has always been my dream to build a small castle and have at least one trebuchet on a tower. That'd be ultra cool...

Ha! Great minds and all that jazz...
Set on about 100 acres, medieval style with the farms toward the outer rim, castle and bailey in the center, and of course the usual stables and dwellings- if we hit the lottery it'll be a medieval town. I know, I know...but if you're gonna dream, dream BIG. Right?

The lottery isn't big enough for a full-scale medieval town with castle.
Which is part of why my wife and I are planning just a small castle, really just the keep, about 10,000 square feet liveable space on 5-10 acres of land...
Of course, actually building with real stone is also prohibitively expensive (and not earthquake resistant, important in Alaska), so we'd be looking at just a stone facade...
Now, Bill Gates could easily do the entire town...

To derail the thread further, I always thought that if I was ever lucky enough to win one of the big jackpots on the euro lottery, I would either buy myself a ruined castle and restore it, or build a replica from scratch. It would have to be a historically accurate building to meet my tastes, no mock medieval towers stuck on the side of a modern building. I would want a proper castle with 3 meter thick walls and arrow slits. Anyway because I’m a geek I have thought about which castle I would use. I would either buy the land that this castle is on www.visitcumbria.com/pen/pendragon.htm. I spent a lot of my child hood in Cumbria, and this was my local castle. it is in a fairly ruinous state but with enough money and the planning permission(which may be an issue) it could be restored. It’s a fairly simple square stone keep with no bailey. Alternatively I would start from scratch and build a new castle, if I was going to do this I would base it on this castle www.skiptoncastle.co.uk/ (though I would remove all the latter Tudor buildings from my plans. Its basically a small but very powerful enclosure castle.

Glenveagh Castle in Ireland is my model ; while the lottery couldn't finance an entire town, it could do a village. Especially one that would eventually become host to the state renn fest as well as being a living, breathing tour of the middle ages... My castle would also have electricity and running water in certain rooms in the living quarters, but the entire first floor would be medieval in every way, shape and form with the exception of the 3meter stone blocks...might have to build it conventionally and use a stone facade like taran suggested. Sorry for the hijack, OP!!!

Its pretty, but not medieval(I think it was built in the 1830’s), so would fall outside my historical accuracy requirement.

I suspect you would need hundreds of millions of pounds to rebuild a castle like Conway, its an incredible structure on a huge scale.

I like that castle, Sparky. And I like your take on the whole idea, KingRat, but I wouldn't go either way.
A simple, square keep, built earthquake proof (I'm going to put it in Alaska). Entirely medieval in appearance on the outside (well, with a garage door). Roman Villa with modern conveniences on the inside. including pool and garden in the center with an opening glass roof.
