Tai Chi (taiji) players go out of our way to find shoes with the soles made of natural materials so we are not insulated from the chi of the earth. The standard cotton soled kung fu slippers are the most popular. My wife just finished making me a pair of slippers that can be used as taiji shoes. The upper section is a 100% bamboo yarn and the outsole can be made of any weight 4 yarn (pictured is a wool blend) and it will be fairly easy to reinforce the sole if need. Here they are:

Hey those are comfy, (and hand made...)
Actually I go barefoot most of the time practicing, but we've had a run of cold damp mornings so the slippers were appreciated.
