Hello, people. ;D Well, I realized that, with the money I already have plus what came from Selling Verneuil, I'd have enough to buy the FTW, ship the FTW and the Garrigal, and still have $50 left over! So, what did I do? I PMed Brendan to see if he'd be willing to make a scabbard for the FTW. He has graciously agreed, even though $50 is a paltry sum to pay for his time. The scabbard will be made to cover the entire blade, and will be crafted out of the same wood as the handle. However, I didn't post this to gloat. ;D My question has to do with the above situation, so I wanted to describe where I was coming from. I plan to wear the knife behind me, instead of on my side as is traditional. As I described it to Bren, it will hang, "behind my back, just beneath belt level, edge down, with the grip on my right side." Obviously, Brendan's doing MORE than enough just by making the scabbard itself, so I wouldn't ask him to make a suspension system as well. To accomplish my goal of having the dagger hang in the position described above, I'll buy one of the following dagger frogs. My question is pretty simple; which one would YOU get? Two of these frogs have options, I'd be getting the one at an angle whcih would permit me to wear it on the right side of the back of my belt, and be able to draw with my right hand. In other words, the one pitured in the first link, and the only option NOT pictured in the second link. Whew! How do I manage to complicate things this much, I'll never know... www.medievalcollectables.com/p-319-leather-dagger-frog.aspxwww.medievalcollectables.com/p-318-medieval-dagger-frog.aspxor, and this is one Brenno suggested, in a different but similar style, www.swordsofhonor.com/rodafr.htmlEDIT: or this one... www.by-the-sword.com/acatalog/Deluxe_Medieval_Dagger_Frog_BTS-2256.html#aBTS_2d2256The third option is listed at nearly $35 more, but I saw it somewhere for only $20, so price isn't quite as much of an issue. What do you think? Thanks! ;D -Slayer

Are you going to reach behind with your right hand on your right side, pulling the blade upward to draw? That sounds awkward. Wouldn't a daggar hanging downward (diagonally) instead of horizontally get in the way if you were to sit down? How long is this blade? Horizontal:

the blade is 12" long, and yes. The big difference from what you're probably invisioning is that I'd draw it in a reverse grip, instead of awkwardly twisting and drawing it in a traditional grip. The initial draw move would be a reverse-grip upward-diagonal right-to-left slash. See what I mean?

No, it wouldn't really get in my way, because i never sit down outside, really. When I wasn't using it, I'd just take the belt off. oh, and here's a link to the actual dagger: www.fableblades.com/FanTacWak.htmlThanks! -Slayer

You must be much more flexible than I. Just trying to move my arm enough to draw a 12" blade mounted like you describe is a problem. That would put my elbow level with my shoulder.

Slayer you are better mounting it in a horizontal draw, my wraith is the same length as the fan tac wac, I am 6' 4" and even drawing up as high as I can the tip barely clears the scabbard. Also underhand or overhand it doesn't matter it is still terribly obvious and awkward. I would forget the whole "draw from behind the back thing with these knives they aren't designed to do it, they are too long, they are almost shortswords. If the weapon were 12" overall with say a 7 or 8" blade it would be fine but as I said even at 6' 4" i can barely draw from a behind sheath in reverse grip.

It's nothing super flash don't you worry. In fact it's been a right pain in the A and I don't think I want to start doing scabbards any time soon either. I'll get a pic up soonish.

What? Me can't vote? Oh well, I still reckon horizontal. That is, if you get a scabbard...

That's nice wood, I'd venture it just needs a bunch more sanding, which can get tedious. I voted horizontal too, I like that style.

WOW!!! Thanks, Brenno... Sorry that it was a bit harder than anticipated, though. That's beautiful, man. +1! I'm not sure why you cant vote, though... -Slayer

I like the look of that scabbard Brenno... the middle section is perfect for grabbing and hold it... clean, VERY nice.

That's a very nice looking scabbard. If the blade were a bit shorter I would suggest wearing it on your thigh like a tactical pistol holster. Given it's length and the nice shape of the scabbard, I would just slide it into a belt without any frog at all.

I like it! If you do another similar one I'd like to see some of your wood carving work done on it, it'd look even better!

You sound annoyed. That's nice wood, I'd venture it just needs a bunch more sanding, which can get tedious. I am annoyed! I had it fitting perfectly then i glued it with super strength epoxy. Which wouldn't dry cos the weather is finally getting cold and wet here. SoI put it by the heater which caused it to soften and let go, so I reglued it with quick set epoxy, which worked good but once dry the knife wouldn't go in it. Then working the knife in and out a hundred times trying to get it to fit it caused the glue to let go again and the sides spread apart slightly just where the end of the edge sits, as clearly the knife no longer fits... The wood is walnut on both the grip and the scabbard, but from different pieces. The Scabbard is the new stuff I got. It can also be seen on this wand: www.fableblades.com/Wand%20in%20Walnut.html

I have a nice dagger frog for sale in my closet-cleanout thread in the classifieds. It's brown, but DAMN well made. It's also equipped with an extra leather thing that tightens over the grip of the dagger to secure it in the scabbard, for renn-fairs that require such.
Come to mention it, I think you posted about possible interest. $20, shipped.

My goodness, we're all a bunch of wet blankets today, or maybe its just my perception that's off. Slayer's a good kid; at 14 or 15 I'm thinking he wants to look cool with his FanTacWak- I doubt he'll be drawing it in a duel, he just wants to wear it.
Slayer, you could also opt to sling it over a shoulder- if you have a baldric, you can just lace it to the back for a temporary deal, or stitch a frog on if you so desire; wear the sword on your hip and the fantacwak at your back.
Just be safe have some fun, kiddo.
