While it is a bit difficult to determine just what it might be, it has the look of a golok or parang. The blade decoration and general form may well label it as a tourista item. Basically a machete by any name. zooming only makes it look moreso like a tourist item, as the fittings are pretty coarse and the handle looks like painted or shellaced wood. The handle and fittings do bear a small resemblence to German/Prussian hirschfangers but the blade shape in most likely of Pacific rim or island shape. Crude beyond what was exported from the European and British efforts.
Cheers
Hotspur; there are some very fancy looking machetes, parangs and golok out there
of course

Ok now I can post some of the info now that there has been some "ID's", this was brought back by an American Soldier from the Korean War and passed down through the family. So it's at least 56 years old. The owner wants to know what it is and how "old" it might be.

My Dad served in the Korean war; do you have larger pics? I'll see if he can place it.
