From the look of the video... I'd say the Hanwei Raptor cut best. I had a Raptor Shobu, and I had an Oni Forge Shobu like the one Wiwingti is building the WSS Shobu off of. I agree with his assesment as far as those two go... the WSS shobu will be lighter and quicker then the Raptor, but the Raptor will cut very well indeed. I have not handled the DF shobu yet... would love to. ;D

they are, almost the same. it looked better with the raptor but, no, some of my mats were more or less soaked, maybe this is why it looked not the same.

Great and very informative vid, Marc. Thanks! You're in the queue for karma... I've been thinking that a shobu will probably be my first katana (after a few more cutlasses, a claymore, and maybe a dadao or two ), but have been looking most longingly at the Cheness Ayame- I just love the tip geometry. Any idea how it would compare to these? Cheers Marc E PS- Oh, and when you say you've gained weight, I assume you mean on your arms. Biceps of doom! ;D

I don´t know...that raptor was cutting that mat like it was butter...and I don´t think it was just mat variance that is the reason for that...course I rather like your WSS shobu better as it´s a light weight, low sori shobu which is like my dream shobu if it was DH and hon san mei laminated (not that I can afford such a katana ATM...or any beyond the two I had on order before getting hurt).
