This is here because the sword in question doesnt really have a "style" per say, its rather generic. I'd like some opinions on the sword www.amazon.com/Trademark-Global-Hunting-Knife-Designed/dp/B001DBJK6AI really like the design of the sword, I love the shape and its simplicity. It looks decent but I'm a little put off by the "Stainless Steel" part and the price. If this is basically a POS, where is a good place I could go to have the sword made with good quality steel and to my specifications?

Firstly, this is 100% a POS, I'm afraid. Nothing but a wall-hanger made for those who don't know better. But as to where you should go for a great custom sword, I have two words for you: Fableblades.com Okay, okay, it's kind of one word, but you get what I mean! ;D Seriously, check it out... I'd bet it is probably worth the listed price but you'll likely be dissapointed in the end. Cost and projected use come into offering information as well. Here are some of Jerry Hossom's swords (oh my god! It's stainless! Ya, so what?) www.hossom.com/index_page0006.htmThe sword you link to is quite like the elven swords from LOTR. Rather simple in shape and could be of infinite profile. What you have linked to is basically machete like in form and some like them just fine. There are various slab handled and cord wrapped cheap swords. if that is your budget, then look no further and pick one you like the look of. if you want a real sword (not just a machete but one could do worse) then money, especially customs will start to cost serious money. Tom Maringer designed and made his Vorpal line swords. www.shirepost.com/VorpalSword.htmlMike Stuart, in those days of Blackjack, arranged to make some of the Vorpal swords, albit Tom never got a cent promised. I can't seem to find Tom Carey's old Blacjack information site but seems to have just launched a forum. The saga is a long, long story about Blackjack and subsequent issues. After a stint at Marbles, Mike Stewart launched Bark River knives and soon enough seems to have had some Vorpal blanks left over and he made them as the Northwind sword. barkriverknives.com/gallery/northwind . There were some older production Vorpals around at less than $200 but those days are gone. Mike will deny any faults in how he handled the remainder of the blanks and maintains it isn't the same sword, so f Tom Maringer. Bitter, bitter stuff between the two. There are certainly other makers out there and some are more hungry for work than others. approach any maker quite openly but in private as to what your budget is and what they may have to offer. Cheers Hotspur; just some rambling thought about such

I might get it to bang around with (It IS just $30) and to get the measurements for the custom piece. If I get it, I'll let you know how it swings.

I have one of those things . It's a great piece for a costume; maybe fantasy-themed barbarian or something approximate. Okay to practice forms/ katas with . . . but that's about it. Wouldn't recommend cutting/tameshigiri with it. --Edward

Hotspur: Please remove the blackjack knives link it is all porn. So what stainless steels are useable in sword length pieces? Odd, I get Thom Carey's forum pages. OK, I see it has been spammed to relate that. Regarding stainless, I don't really want to step on folks feet but I have discussed it at length before. The Hossom espadas linked in my earlier post are "stainless". I have in the past made mention of other's that have done just fine with 440c and even the beater himself, Bill Tsafa, beating on his tire pell with a 420js blade from United Cutlery. What I continue to experience on just about any forum on the absolutes about high chromium steels is just sheer ignorance, puppetry and parrots. I simply disagree in assigning absolutes so widely professed as the only answer. Bob Engnath and Barry Dawson for a couple of more names. Cheers Hotspur; Thom Carey's forum link removed
