www.museumreplicas.com/p-898-blacksword.aspxThis really amuses me, the similarities between the sword Mormegil (which means, literally "Black Sword" and was forged by a dark elf) and given to Turin (who was known by many names) while he stayed in Nargothrond (a "wood elf" city), after he had slain Beleg. He and the sword were both known as Mormegil, and he was famous for slaying Glaurung, a dragon. I'm not saying it's theft, only amusing to notice the inspiration. I rather like the blade, though I don't much like the hilting. I'd love to see someone rehilt it.

Yeah, I noticed that myself. Yay copyright workarounds! ;D

Indeed. Would be neat if someone straightened the quillions and gave it a nice oxblood rewrap.

I looked at this one too. I held one on Saturday out of curiosity. I'd not pay $50 for it. It's really cheaply made, kind of like the historical Excalibur model from a couple years ago. Typically whippy blade of thin construction and I think its actually painted black with lacquer - not heat blued.
Save your beans if you are thinking about it. ;D

I still don't see why someone desn't do a powder coated or electroplated black blade. I've seen some wonderful things done with black chrome for the electroplating, and a black powder coat could potentially be incorporated into the tempering phase of the blade.
But, eh...go figure.
Maybe one of these days QC will be up to the task, too.

Their Italian bastard sword also looked very nice in pictures, like dark grey-black, but in reality it was just painted black so I didn't get it although I planed.

I wanted that Italian Bastard as well...but you say its painted? Sheesh.
Mormegil was was what the Elves came to call him (Turin); his sword was Aglachel, until he had it reforged and named it Gurthang. Forged by Eol of some black meteorite material.
hammar, I think the Black Knight sword from DSA is powdercoated, but don't quote me on that. Sept has one, he did a review, ah here it is: /index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=6090&page=1
I think Eyal got it right.

I had the DSA Black Knight. It's heat blued to a nice deep dark green / black lustre. Very nice finish, but it makes you not want to do any cutting with it out of fear of messing up the bluing.

Think Daniel said the same thing; its a pricey and well built wall hanger due to that. I still like it though.

Actually, both Orcs and Elves referred to Turin and the sword synonymously as Mormegil. Just as Turin's real name is not Mormegil, neither is it the sword's true name. Nonetheless people still referred to them as such.

Eyal will do a commission for in the $300-400 range of your designs. And, we know he can heat blue weapons. Why don't one of you design this sword and have it made? ;D

Well, because I already designed a sword for Eyal. Also because I'm poor. Too poor to afford food next week at work, so another sword would have to wait. ;D

You're going to make me go look it up; I do not think the Orcs would've referred to him as 'Mormegil' - its in the Elvish tongue and Orcs disdain to speak it. Maybe they referred to him as 'Blacksword' in the Westron tongue but even so, it would've been somewhat other than Mormegil. I'll look later, the book's at home.

Hey, Kidcasa, what sword did you design for Eyal? -Slayer

Well, not specifically for him, Slayer. I designed that single-handed Ranger-esque sword and Eyal became very interested in it.
Ebon, it's very possible that I am mixed up. I know for a fact that both Turin and Gurthang were known as Mormegil to the elves, though I am fairly sure orcs also called him this.
