A while ago I bought one of the old MRL kingdom of heaven swords when they went on sale. I didn't like the sword all that much more than the movie but I thought it had potential. It was cheap and I didn't own any European swords, at least not any real ones, so I picked one up. I'm not sure but I think that was maybe two years ago. There's a thread somewhere.
- I shortened the blade by about 2 inches. I also reground the blade to give it a little distal taper. This eliminated the diamond section towards the tip. I also was able to sharpen it without a secondary bevel. In fact the last 6 inches or so hardly change angle at all at the edge.
-The guard and pommel went through several stages but I eventually settled on this shape.
-The grip was reshaped and covered in a leather cord or strip. I like the way it feels. It works well while cutting.
The last step was to epoxy the entire thing together. I didn't just want to glue the pommel threading but not the rest since that would give me little worm to work if the grip loosened. I wanted to imitate Albion's style of construction where every hilt component is held on independently. I wanted epoxy through the entire hilt. So I started by epoxying the guard in place then the handle and pommel. Finished, the sword is rock solid.
I was impatient on many things and didn't really get it *right*. Over all though i really like the way this came out. It handles pretty well, much better than before. It doesn't look all that smooth but cuts quite well. After finishing this one, I want to buy a couple more to rip apart but alas funds are limited.
I've included some "before" pictures of the parts just for reference.

And just for laughs, this is how I spend my summer break.
